whos got a P38? lets see some pics and hear about some of the mods, I just got mine and did 4" lift with OME springs/shocks and got the safety devices rack on its way. I want to get some ideas and spend some $! I am thinking about getting the sliders and front bumper from alan at rockrover.com and putting some hella ff300s on my rack :)

And to throw some tech into this post, I will second your choice of Alan and his products. I have his sliders and front diff guard, and couldn't be happier. The sliders are built like a tank, and since they mount directly to the frame, they are sturdy as well. (And he's a great guy.)

P38's lack serious recovery points for the front, so a front bumper replacement will be needed, or you will have to fab up something yourself. Other than that, it's an extremely capable off road vehicle which some people don't give it credit for. But as more of us take them out on the trails, we'll get the word out.

By the way, where did you find your SD rack?

Scott

After many many phone calls, I found the last one (brand new sitting there for 4.5 years....why didnt any one of you guys find it???) at a LR dealer in TN. Obviously I jumped on it, its actuallly scheduled to be delivered to me here in CA on Thursday :D

PS
They sold it to me at COST! :p

what OME springs did you use to gain a 4" lift.. and what else did you replace? I've only gotta 3" Rovertym springs.. I was unaware of an OME lift that could do anything more then that.. please enlighten me.

Maybe some pictures?

Did you just start calling random state dealerships look'n for that rack?
Very cool, you got a good deal on it.

Mods on my Rhino:
RockRover Sliders
RockRover Front Diff Guard
Factory winch tray (still awaiting a winch)
Safety Devices Rack
EBC Sport Rotors, 7K series front pads, 6K series rear
Waterproof Seat Covers
Pirelli Scorpion AT's on LR 16" Mirages
Nitto 420S's on LR 18" Prolines
*Don't know if you'd consider it a mod, but I prefer to use the longer K&N oil filter 3001 over the short standard replacement

Mods Wanted:
Southdown Gas Tank Skid Plate
Southdown Steering Guard
Rear Diff Guard
Winch for tray
Front/Rear "Exoskeleton" bumper cages

Pictures are too big to post here, but here's a blog link w/ some pics:

When I did my P38 OME coil conversion I got about 3.75" over standard EAS ride height using OME 764 in front and 781 in the rear. Keep in mind that I'm using motorcarsltd coil conversion spring spacer/seats which also give a little more height than coil conversion kits that use standard LR spring seats.

Eddie at west coast rovers here in CA is doing the suspension work for me (I almost broke my back lifting my disco on the floor of my garage, he's got a lift in his shop so I'll let him have the fun) and he called it a 4" lift...so thats what I'm going by. I assume from reading in the forums, etc. that it will not be a full 4" lift. He is going to use the coil conversion from British Pacific, I'm not sure if its anything like the motorcars conversion kit or atlantic's kit....I guess we'll see (might be done later today :) ) I am going with 763s in rear and 764s in front, towing a boat so I need some oomph in back end.

The low down on the SD rack..... I was calling all the dealers I could find in CA and could not locate one (obviously) and one dealer offered to search the ENTIRE usa for me! All the LR dealers apparently are on a network to show their parts invetory, so he just selected all the dealers and searched that part number. It came up with 2 left in the entire usa. One in CO and one in TN. I called the dealer in CO first and the parts guy said that it was on hold for someone and it was sitting there for a month now. He said he wasnt so sure if the guy was going to buy it or not. If any of you guys want to hassle him for it, the phone number is -> Land Rover Roaring Fork - (970) 945-4600. He said that he wanted to wait a bit longer before he sold it to someone else.
I wanted mine NOW!! So I called TN, they had it and wanted to get rid of it and they wanted to give me a killer deal, so I arranged the shipping and now I have it, its kick ass and I cant wait to make you guys jealous with some pics soon :D

normally you measure from top of axle to bottom of frame (before and after the lift).

I think there is a company on the east coast that might have the SD rack in stock, I'll have to check and see.

Anyone have stock standard ride height measurements? I want to compare to mine and I didnt take any before the lift. Where is a good spot to measure?

According to Atlantic British, the height of a P38 in standard ride height with stock tires measured from the ground to the top of the wheel well is 31-3/4? in the front, and 32? in the rear.

Here is a couple of quick shots of a well put together p38. It has 4 inch lift. OME sorings from EE and the seats and perches from rover connection. I bypassed the EAS using information obtained from the internet. If anyone needs it i will post it up. The front bumper is sheet metal Alan Bates style. Its great...it is by far the strogest thing on the truck and looks pretty cool too. It has 33' tires which give well over 25MPG on the freeway with stock gears. Climbing hills requires some skill and forward planning. I am planning to change em some time....but its not as bad as you would exspect. If i had a 4,6 under the hood i would probably keep the stock gears. I have a load more pics and some short video if any one is interested. Us P38 guys must stick together and breed less we turn out like the Ivory Billed wood pecker.http://www.msnusers.com/P38aontherubicon :victory:

Well measurements from the ground to the top of the rear wheel well is 37.5 inches and the front wheel well is 36.5 inches. I'm running 265/75/r16 Cooper STTs. So with my tires, I got 5.5 inches lift in the rear and 4.75 inches in the front according to AlanB's info from Atlantic British. I use the OME 763's in the rear and 764's in front. I wanted the rear to be a little heavier because I tow a boat. I do notice a little vibration at certain speeds, I'm not sure if its my tires or my front driveshaft (still running stock)

AlanB - I talked to you on the phone the other day and you mentioned that you changed your front driveshaft, how can I pin point this vibration before I spend the $$ on a front driveshaft? The picture posted is a close up of the front driveshaft, I dont know how far it can extend, but you can see in the picture how much its moved.

Looks good etcatmeat, but let's see that thing in action!

I wanna see the clearance, flex, and if there's any rubbing issues going on, but it looks tough!
