anyone have much experience with utility ATVs?

I picked up a 2005 Honda Rancher about a year ago. only catch is, its 2wd. the ITP mudlites helped, and its got a warn 3k on the front. still, im looking to make it more capable.

thinking about a jet kit for the power aspect, but any ideas on how to squeeze a little more capability out of it? lift kit?

That is a good ATV and since you have the winch you are good. I have a buddy of mine who is very familiar with jet kits. I will call him and send you a web link to where he bought his.

I've loved it so far. Ive sunk it several times up to the seat in creek water as well as mud holes. high-centered on rocks, rolled over, etc etc...still going strong.

the more i take it out the more i like it, its great. strong motor, as well.

appreciate the info:)

There is no way a 2x will keep up with the 4x. Check out highlifter.com I put a jet kit k&n and a supertrapp muffler on a yamaha 400 and it helped a bunch with the 28" tires. The lift kit will make it a little taller and will obviously help with larger tires. theres a lot on the website i mentioned. enjoy

Dont fuck with something thats reliable out of the box.

I have the 2x and 4x and the 2x has gone everywhere i go with the 4x.

Jim

All that statement really means is that you haven?t gone anywhere on your 4x4 that a 2x can?t go.

04 rancher 350 x4 goes where the big boys do only twice as far on a tank. The 4x makes steering a pain some times but. someone makes a switch to select x2.
& when you need to lift it you say how high..

i agree. ive been out with large groups plenty of times to know that a 4x4 can go more places. you can throw the "its all about the driver" BS out there but thats all it is...BS.

that applies in alot of cases, but try and tell me i can follow the guy in front of me with 27" mudlites and 4 wheel drive who trucks through a 4 foot deep mud hole.

ive checked out highlifter.com, great site. planning on making a few purchases soon, right after i get the rear rack outfitted with a box to store the camping stuff!

id love to have a 4wd, but ive got to admit, the lighter, 2wd is much more "fun" to play around on.

the switch is a Warn 424, its a great kit, IF you have the initial 4wd model.
