What adapter is required for a manual conversion to a current Auto '95 Disco? Does Advance Adp. have one? Is one required?

Sounds like a lot of work for a '95 disco and it will just be more difficult to control off-road.

Brian: more difficult to control off-road? Since you went off-topic to make this comment, I'll stay off-topic to tell you you're WRONG. There, how's that :D. Seriously, don't you think that might be a subjective opinion, having more to do with what you like than anything else?

Uberhahn: Out of curiosity, why are you attempting this? Why not find a
1995 with a manual and work from there? Sorry, I have no practical advice for you, other than saying that you are desiring a Good Thing. Manuals are better ;)

- Andrew.

Andrew,

1 - I prefer to drive a manual trans vehicle, regardless of debate. There are advantages to both. I have driven many dedicated off-road vehicles, with both manual and auto. I am a good off-road driver, and at the minimum, I like the "feeling" of being in control with a manual.

2- I have an opportunity to get at '95 Disco for a few hundred bucks. If this is fruitless, then I'll end up selling the auto, and pursue finding a manual.

I agree with Uber, it is a preference thing, but there is no doubt in my mind that you have more control with an auto. It is so much easier, skill level aside to not have to deal with a clutch. I do not see how there is any argument over this, you just have one thing less to deal with and you only have two feet.

However, I do understand that things such as starting the vehicle without a starter that are advantages, but they are drivability advantages. So I guess that you are right there are advantages of both. I cannot tell you how many times "expert" drivers and I have been together and I have a much easier time over obstacles just because I have auto.

what slot box are you looking at installing?
if your staying "rover", the r380 will bolt right up. but obviously, you will need all the ancillaries to complete it. pedal assembly, flywheel, clutch assembly etc...
also if i'm not mistaken, the output shaft on the transfercase may need to be changes to a shorter or longer style, can't remember which at the moment.

seems to me, it would be easier to get a disco with the stick.
they are not as common but they are out there.

oh, and Bri, you'll never be able to convince a stick guy that an auto is better. they take that shit real personal! :)
i personally would never go back to a manual box, but i like to "wheel" with one hand on the steering wheel, and the other hand wrapped around a Latte.

On top of that other stuff, little things like chassis crossmembers that support the box may need replacement, a new bellhousing. Might even need a new transfer boxas I think the two mate differently. Then other little details like reverse switches, gearstick gaiter....the little stuff that can drive you Nutz.
What I would do is got to http://www.ashcroft-transmissions.co.uk/ cos Ian has been there done that and I would source everything from him.
You sound pretty convinced that its the way to go, be great to be able to read about it here as you go along.
Good luck
