there are only a few practicle materials to choose from when buiding a roof rack, most of which will exceed the strength of the rain gutters. My goal would not to use the cheapest material, but to use the lightest material with excelent strength benefits. Chromoly 1" DIA .062 wall tube is a good choice.

K.I.S.S. is in order, no need to reinvent the wheel :)

I just started using Unigraphics NX at my new job three days ago. So far not bad, much easier than Pro-E and more powerful than Inventor or SW, but about as easy to use.
