for reference, in ExpeditionExchange.com galleries you will find one of these rare racks:

this is a LWB in the pics so the rack is a bit short because it is built for a SWB RRC but will work on a long wheel base with no problems, this one also has some kind of flooring, mine has just the tubes and includes 4 tabs for EE jerry can holders, tabs for 4 Hella Lights front and 2 tab for work lights in the back and even a tab for the CB antennae.

Why is paying $900 for a used SD Rack-copy an awesome opportunity?

Because how many chances do you really get to get ripped off by buying an overpriced copy of an original item? and think about all the memories to come along with it. Your first camping trip where one of the shitty welds brake because you put something on it. Hitting the rack on a tree and watching it fall off the side of the truck, trapping you in the truck. And dont forget finding out that the light mounts on the rack are only compatible with flashlights. :D

hum, well I still think it is an awesome opportunity, now that you mention it is a SWB in the pic but the rack fits identically on my 95LWB... maybe Kyle didn't have his jig too tight LOL...

how things change, now I see there is not much love for these racks in here.. that's cool but I doubt any 125 bucks rack comes close to this one...

later,

Simon.

Why do you think it's an awesome opportunity when you can get the "real deal" for the same price and sometimes less?

please show me where you can find a "real deal" for a range rover classic? this is not the disco rack

shit maybe I've been out of touch with discoweb for too long.. is anyone doing these racks now? safety devices never did this one for the RRC... but if there is someone doing this same rack for cheap please let me know and I will stand corrected.

ehh, he doesn't have the best reputation anymore...check out "the never ending rack thread" and the open letter to Kyle Van Tassel. He made some good stuff though. Roverracks (aka Northwest Parts/NWP) is making something similar now, but you are still under their price.

Sorry, I just found these on the list:

http://newyork.craigslist.org/wch/for/1193625057.html

http://atlanta.craigslist.org/pts/1179001107.html

I know what happened with the whole fiasco and all, not sure why it happened but this rack Kyle did is stronger than anything out there, it is just like the low safety devices for discos but with a much better construction and none of the issues. There is nothing out there that would look as nice on a RRC and at the same time perform the way it should.

the hannibal like always is just a plumber's rack.. strong but it looks terrible, the other at 150 bucks doesn't say anything else but a rack for a land rover so who knows...

Edit: the NWP? please... search about these... no comparison at all....

I have an OEM RRC rack available too if anyone wants it.

so Cambo? how is the KVT prototype bumper you bought from me doing? you never called me, I hope you did the mods it needed.

How long ago was that? I remeber getting that bumper and liking the style a lot, but I was never able to abuse it. I ended up with a RRC so I sold it long ago. As far as the rack, I think it is one of the more aesthetically pleasing ones, not sure about quality, but the price is pretty steep. Even if it is the shit. A few RRC guys are picking up P38 safety devices racks and retrofitting those. They look tits and can be had for around 300. Good luck with the sale, but be reasonable.

It's a USED roof rack man! USED! You're asking $900 for a SD copy from a questionable builder/merchant. Are you saying that RRC Roof Racks are so rare that you could ask $900 for that? It's an awesome opportunity to get ripped off! As Cambo says, be reasonable.

Actually it doesn't, it fits 10" shorter. If it really were for an LWB and fit, I would have been all over it.

I do not think that Kyle's quality was questionable, but could be wrong. The Backpack Rack I had for my old disco was pretty stout.
