I have seen several people do this over the years but was wanting some more detail. what type of stovetop are you running on your backdoors. I am looking to set up a quick portable kitchen for some light car camping.

are we using propane mostly?
brands/models of stovetops...

I almost set mine on fire when I was using my MSR Whisperlite on my door shelf, leaked a little white gas...I almost let it go, but then realized it was 7 miles back to anything resembled a road...10 year old Coleman cooktop on propane, that's the way to go

butane stove from the Korean market. it's been great for everything except an apple cider reduction sauce. been using it for 10 years. Plus it's the same fuel as the snowpeak torch.

I have no idea what it was, but Rob's stove put out a ton of heat. I think that reduction used an entire canister of fuel.

Speaking of reductions, I've been perfecting a pan seared skin-on sockeye salmon with a red wine reduction. :) PNW cuisine at its finest.

The stove depends on how cold it will get, what you will be cooking, and how many mouths you are going to feed.

Butane - very hot in warm weather
Iso-butane - very hot until it gets to about 25F
Propane - hot until it gets to about 10F
White-gas - always damn hot

Propane is easier to control which makes it pretty popular for those that like to cook. White gas stoves such as the MSR XGK series and the classic Coleman white-gas/unleaded multi-fuel stoves are very reliable, field repairable, and boil water fast but are loud and hard to control. The Jetboil is very easy to use, but the iso-butane gets tough to cook on when it gets cooler.

The standard 2 burner green coleman propane cook top is unbeatable... plus I've seen old used ones sell for almost as much as the new ones... They deff hold their value.
