Like the lr3 for what it is but don't say silly things about mpg/$. What mpg does the new cdi get, low 20's at least, the lr3 won't really do much better than mid teens unless it's stripped, empty, and driven with care--downhill.
16mpg vs 24mpg, 8gal less is 30% worse mpg, $4.50 vs $5 (diff is generally been 1/2 that tighter everywhere I've seen) is still only a 10% cost diff. so, at best, your lr3 will cost at least 20% more in fuel, not to mention the extra stops and no biod option and less torque.
For my 30,000 miles per year, it does ad up.
I'm not advocating the ML or GL, just pointing out the gas cost vs fuel aspect that people keep blabing about. the new clean diesels are nearing 50% + better economy and will likely continue while the V8 is not going to get much better.
