where i'm at right now, duh...
Some people don't want the extra weight/bulk of a full brush bar. I think it all depends on where you go wheelin, and what your needs are. I'm happy with the A-bar on my slimline. It's a great reference point on the front of my truck, and mounts a set of lights right where I want them.

Steve, the bumper looks great.

Right. And that's why Kyle will put whatever bar (or no bar at all) on his bumpers, depending on what the customer wants. Which is why they are all different.

As for the rear bumpers that started off this thread; I like to see different people's solutions, too. Personally I'm not a big fan of diamond plate, but each his own. At least Peter took his idea and ran with it, which is good. I'm sure his bumper will evolve over time, too. The same goes for Walter's solution. It may not be perfect, but I do like the way he incorportated the rear light's in his.

Very true atatement by Koby here and that thing of Toms was pretty damn ugly. I also thought it was TOm that said his "Fabricator" made the thing ? Maybe I am wrong....

Kyle

Yes, you are wrong. And in fact I was the first to say mine was ugly. But it was cheap and serves the purpose of supporting the winch and I don't really care. I give the same response when people say they like it as I do when they say they don't, a shrug. Cause in the end it doesn't matter to me what others think. If people want to spend 10-20 times what mine cost so it looks "elegant", more power to them. I wish I had that kind of money.

Actually I think this whole thread is kinda funny considering we're talking about "looks" when it comes to Discoverys, a pretty ugly car in its own right.

What's not funny is the pleasure some people get in trashing other peoples' efforts. That is sad, but to be expected now that Land Rovers are mainstream. There are enough owners now that a few are bound to have no class. Too many people buy them for the image, but that's cool too, cause it let's me buy used ones cheap.

Some people seem to think the only two options are to lie and say it looks nice, or be "honest" and trash it. There's a third, don't say anything. Difficult I know, for some.

This might piss some people off, but I'm just being honest. Great isn't it?

So much love here......

Great effort Peter and Walter. I wouldn't even know where to start on a project like that.

I agree Paul. Peter, I did not mean to start this going down the path that it did. Keep up the good work. I have seen some pretty darned mediocre first attempt bumpers from some of the people here and they evolved quite nicely.

I do not have the tools or skills to do what you are doing, otherwise I would probably be attempting the same things. Like others have said, I questioned how much protection it would give you and obviously it was more protection than I thought. So good work there.

As far as the looks go. No aftermarket bumper for the disco is great looking, except to those that choose it for a purpose and those that build it. To most, it is an ugly hunk of metal.

I chose my Rockware bumpers since they are damn near indesctructable, manufacturer is near by, stands by his gear, he did the installation and had a competitive price. Looks had very, very little to do with it, but at least the welds and form are clean.

Congrats to anyone who builds their own bumpers/truck parts. I could NEVER start or finish a project like that! Well, unless I had some major help and tools!

I agree that there are some more attractive. I like Greg Davis' and I really like Dave Lucas'. I also REALLY like Kyle's front winch bumper. I just need to save up some money for one!

Now, if we could just keep the guns away from MAR, Kyle would come and I could see his handiwork in person! ;)

Hey Sus, if you want to see one of Kyle's bumpers, I'll be at MAR. Not quite as shiny as it used to be, but the craftsmanship is all there. I think his new generations will be a little different but you'd get the gist. Feel free to look me up.

I have learned something from this thread.

1. Most of you should spend some time at www.oprah.com

2. Dave Lucas has a rear bumper solutuion that I want. Get to work Dave.

Dude,

She's fat, she's thin, she's fat again.....I wish she would make up her mind :D

Kinda like this thread. Its fat, its thin, its ugly, its useless, only 1/3rd is usefull, catchers mask, no cathers mask, function, form. I'm getting dizzy.

Hey Dave! Are you done yet? I dont need 1/4 panel protection, no sense in having it if you have to cut the entire panel off. :p

Kudos to anyone that has the ability and creativity to make their own bumpers.

And you know what they say. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. :D

Wow. Just realized that I'm back to being a junior member. Guess I've been gone too long. ;)
