Murphy's is a good pub as well as O'Connells.

Its been a little while so it might just be called Connells...I can't remember.

And if you go down towards the water and make a right from there, there is another good bar but, I can't recall the name.

Maybe Ray can remember some bar names up in the area??

If you are looking for good fish n chips then Eamonn's is the place. Right off King headed into Old Town. http://www.eamonnsdublinchipper.com/

Chili and some decent beers and Hard Time's is a good spot. http://www.hardtimes.com/locations/alexandria/

If you wanna see some great music while in that area then the Birchmere is the place - other end of King Street. Always an impressive line up of music. http://www.birchmere.com/

I'm in Old Town/Alexandria/Shirlington quite a bit. A decent selection of places to eat and drink. Personally I'd take a cab to Adam's Morgan though if you some real bars - Dan's Cafe, Madams Organ, etc. Clarendon and Arlington (Wilson Blvd) have lots of good selections too - far younger crowd too than Old Town. Ioda Club is a really cool joint - great beers and excellent music every weekend.

I asked a friend back there. He said Clarendon. I was going to say Adam's Morgan, but I haven't really been in the area to "party" for a couple of years.

If you are stuck in Old Town the rec's provided are what I'd go with. Personally I avoid it except for when peeps who are re-living their 20's demand Murphy's, O'Connells, Pat Troys and the like.

We typically go to Clarendon. Going into the city is a good idea too, as a resident of Va inside the beltway I find myself no more prone to cross the river than I do volunteering for a trip to Yemen but that's just too much time around here talking...and I'll be in Yemen soon enough anyway so nevermind all that. Old Town isn't that bad, food is decent enough. Depending on timing of your trip consider a Nats game and such, always something to do around here.

Whenever I'm in Alexandria, I usually am drunk.

My uncle lives right off the parkway a stones throw away from Mt. Vernon...and he feeds me bourbon with a funnel.

If we're not there, we're reliving our 20's in Old Town...

Ray, I bet you know where Vernon View Drive is or Riverpark Drive? He lives in there off of Charles Augustine Dr, his property backs up to Fort Hunt Park. Hell, he works at the pentagon...I bet you do know him....Retired Marine.

Great view of the potomac in the winter time but then again when I'm there, I'm usually drunk.

That's a nice area; we head that way for long runs along the parkway a fair amount.

Nothing wrong with reliving 20's mind you; I think living here makes my tolerance for it here significantly lower. I'm happy to do it in other locations!

I'm in the pentagon a fair amount, mostly sticking with the HQMC end of things and otherwise trying to stay in the background, depending on which entity he's with now we may have crossed paths but that is a damn big office building!
