One time I needed roof mounted lights, and I had them at the time. I was stuck with the front of the truck under water and by myself. That being said, I wouldn't install roof lights on an SD rack again. Even with a hood blackout, there is just too much glare from the lights, it made them mostly pointless. It might be better with a Hannibal rack.

120Amps of alternator and a 110ah battery (largest Varta that fits the D2 battery box) should be more than enough grunt for 99% of uses.

If the engine is running at 3000rpm then you'll get 100A or so out of the alternator, in wattage terms that is 1.36kW.

If I were to fit a winch I'd have a second, maybe smaller battery with heavy 50sq mm (0 AWG) welding cable feeds to the winch and 25sq mm (3 AWG) feeds to the alternator, with either a drop-out contactor or a decent blocking diode, so if the engine isn't running the winch cannot disable the engine battery.

Most of the systems I see allow the winch to drain the car battery, which is slightly silly.

If I go the second battery route... another sears platinum? How should they be wired?

I will look into the alternator.

Thanks

As has been said... Parallel, however, you should wire with a disconnect (marine grade, High Amp) switch. You will eventually want to isolate the batteries from one another, maybe. Don't go with less than #2 awg wire.

Also, don't parallel an old battery with a nice new one. When you pair batteries it is important to ensure they are of equal capacitance... load tested if possible but that is not crucial.

I wired up a 70W solar panel (4 ish amps of charge at 12+V) with an isolator / selector switch. I can parallel the batts or isolate, plus I can select which battery (or both) is charged from either the Alt. or the Panel.
