Bent rods on intake valves

I'll start with the question and then give the background. How did I bend intake pushrods on cylinder 1, 3 & 6? Is a SUPER dead low battery (coupled with a really old Sears charger) possibly the culprit that caused a malfunction in the ignition system which led to sticking the valves somehow?

Ok, the long version, I quit my job in November and took the holiday season off. Among other things (family, TR6 front suspension rebuild, bought cows...) I got my Disco back up and running after sitting for way too long. Fuel pump was the primary issue, so I replaced that and charged a VERY dead battery and it started up.

I pulled it out of the garage and let it idle for about an hour and things seemed fine. I turned it off and right back on, again...things seemed fine.

I then waited a while and tried to start it again and things did not go well. Charged the battery again and got it started but it was idling very rough and knocking. Check Engine started blinking and the OBDII threw 15 codes. They specifically pointed out cylinder 1 & 6 misfires. I cleared them and pulled plugs to polish them up and tried again. not 15 codes this time, but still misfire, not pointing to any particular cylinder. So I pulled the driver-side valve cover and #6 intake pushrod was bent.

Got it back together and ran it, got the flashing CE light again. tore apart the passenger side just now and sure enough, #1 & 3 are bent as well...

I bought a non runner that “just needed a fuel pump”. It bent a bunch of them half way around the block once I got it running.

Havent investigated too deep but the one head I removed was cut way past the limit.
