Best Place to mount a Mag Lite?

In the storage area of the DS door mounted with Mag-Lite clips.

You can use PVC pipe with an end-cap on it to hold the lite. Put velcro on the tip of the light's narrow end and the inside of the end-cap prior to assembly. You can also put a bit of weatherstripping inside of the pipe to limit vibration related noises. Worked on my Jeep and did not come loose during my rollover.

IMPORTANT: Remember what happens to poorly secured objects when a vehicle comes to an abrupt stop. You don't want a flashlight to break your ankles, or worse, if you get into an accident. I doubt if the Mag-Lite clips will hold a 3-d flashlight if the clips are pointed in the direction of an accident.

I've used it many times to pull out Jeeps in the dark... always worked well... never came loose. :p

And PVC... hahaha... I bet that looks nice.

If you hit something hard enough to make the flashlight out of those clips you have much more serious issues than worrying about your ankles.

This topic was discussed in great detail on the previous server. The title was something like...Best place(s) to mount a fire extinguisher. I am sure others will post regarding this subject and notify us where they mount their gear.

Re: "And PVC... hahaha... I bet that looks nice."

I painted the pipe to match the interior.

I am not trying to say a mount facing forwards will not work effectively under normal circumstances. As long as it works for that vehicles occupants that is what counts. I just wanted to give someone who has yet to mount the light some food for thought.

My Point is: $hit Happens, Be Prepared (sorry Boyscouts, I modified it a little.)

Anything I can do to make sure I can walk out of the bush is a step worth taking. In Montana my nearest neighbor was ~7-miles away from my house. If I had to crawl away from a wreck, a possible 3.5 miles, I would be screwed without snow and dead with it. That was just if I wrecked in my driveway. If I wrecked in the bush, myself and my rover may never be found...especially if I were in the Bob (Bob Marshal Wilderness). My safety gear and it's locations have changed drastically since living up North. A 12 guage, recovery sack and fully stocked survival/med sack now go on all wilderness excursions.

PS: Nice Site (HLRC) Good layout and nice content. What software did you use?

Mines in the window well in the cargo area between the cubby box lid & window. If it were to slide loose during an accident it's going to shoot into the interior trim, but I agree if that thing comes loose you got bigger problems. I keep a shurefire in the cubby box between the seats & can't rember the last time I had the maglite out of the clips.

My bright red 3D Mag would be boosted through a broken window were I to mount it in plain sight. I keep it IN the rear cubby on the left, with the tool roll, oil and filter. For quick use I also keep an AA Mag in the center console.

Mount the mag to the underside of the cubby lid. Hide the screw heads with snap down covers much like the caps used by LR in the rest of the cargo area.
