I just got a 3" lift for my disco II and i bought 5 BFG All Terrain T/A tires 4 months ago, before the lift. They're 255/70R16's and looked perfect when the truck was stock, but now that it's lifted im looking to get some 33 inch Mud Terrains. They have 80% tread left, and i originally bought them for $165 a peice, i'm willing to sell them for 120 each.. 600 total. That's less than what i'd get if i returned them to costco, the way they figure out their return price is (initial cost / tire wear = return value) so 165/80% = 132 a tire. Email me at roverman1260 if you want any pictures or have any comments.

i wish, costco is being a dick about returning them. They say they're the "wrong tires" for my disco, even though theres only a 1/2 inch difference in the height. They special ordered the tires, and now wont take them back... thats my dilemma

Take them to a different Costco. Tell them you want to 'exchange' them for a special order! If that doesn't work, ask for the manager, if that doesn't work, ask for the regional manager!

I don't understand why Costco WOULD take them back with 20% of the tread gone- no offense, but I can't return a gallon of milk if I've drank 1/5th of it, or try to exchange a pair of shoes that have been worn. Is there something about Costco's return policy that would let you do this?

Secondly, isn't it most places policy that special orders can't be returned?

Am I crazy? I think you're doing the right thing trying to sell them here...

never mind. That's crazy, never heard of a return policy like that before. Apologies for my ignorance.

I would check their policy on special order returns,though...

There is no return policy for tires like that at any warehouse club, it goes against the warehouse club ideal of selling you more than you need.

why do you pay for a membership there? so you can get the special features such as a return policy. ANYTHING you buy at costco you can return, i had a friend who worked there and he told me that one time this lady returned the burlap sheeting for her yard, grass and dirt falling everywhere

If you had bought them anywhere other than Costco, you would be stuck with them. Now, since you have made a change, you want Costco to refund your $??? How on earth can you be mad at them if they did not? That kinda thing drives prices up and just sticks it to one of the last companies trying to provide good customer service. Home Depot got burned so bad they revamped their return policy to our detriment. It's one thing to have a real problem and need a return - this is just taking advantage IMHO.

Just sell them on Craigslist etc.

Anyone who has worked in a place like this knows no vendor is going to take back perfectly good tires for no reason. And anyone who has worked tires in a place like this knows that costco cant sell used tires. It would be rediculous for them to take them back.

Is there a disconnect here? :p

If they weren't special order Costco would have taken them back. I think their take anything back policy is stupid, and just makes everything cost more. I recently watched a lady return less than half of a birthday cake, she said she just wanted her money back, she didn't like it, lawnmowers at the end of the season (who wants to store a lawnmower over the winter), rusty grills obviously many years old....

Fortunately Costco is finally changing their policy for electronics, no more free TV upgrades....

I heard a lot of people bought TVs before the SuperBowl and returned them to Costco afterwards.

I think I'll buy a rotisserie chicken tomorrow, eat the breast meat and return the rest Wednesday.

Brennan,
From Post #3. If you shopped at REI, you could return your 20% worn shoes and 20% used bottle of Bug Spray. They are great about that. :)

Anyhow, just thought I'd offer some completely useless humor to the thread. But SEriously,
Have you considered just Posting them on Craigs List or something. Most places wont do used tires back as they cant sell them. Its one thing if you had them for a day and they rubbed then maybe they could re-sell them. But 20% is a lot. Unless you bought them at REI. ;-)

There has got to be someone in the Area looking for that size for some PIckup or truck or other SUV.

Good Luck
