I wanna put a lift on my disco now and I am thinking about Big Blue HD springs. I am planning mostly to drive my disco 1 on the road I just wanna have a little bit more clearance. What shocks would be recommended if I did get these springs?

Not too sure about Big Blue springs but TLR rovers has a awesome special running on OME shocks and springs.

I had these springs with OME shocks on my 89 RRC and it was a great soft ride. got about 3" lift out of it. but i had no other mods.

If you start throwing on winches , slider s and stuff like that these big blues are simply known to sag quickly.

That said if you are just going for the lift look, man they were nice and soft and gave me the lift i wanted :)

Tim,
I have the big blue 2" lift springs from DAP (not sure if they specified MD or HD) and MD old man springs on another rover, and I can tell you that the old man springs are much stiffer. They can handle 750 lbs (concrete pavers) in the back without budging where my big blues really squat, but under normal loads (people and light gear) , I prefer the big blues for ride comfort and flexibility.
As far as shocks, bilsteins are firmer and better set up for the road, and old man's are 1" longer and more designed for off-road use. I think you will notice different shocks more with softer springs. Bilsteins and genuine springs give a great ride, but I think old man emu shocks are geared more towards HD or MD springs.

I put the big blues on my D1- the 2" version. I got a package deal from DAP with ProComp ES9000 shocks... ended up being REALLY cheap compared to anything else and it rides fantastic. Off road stuff seems fine, but unfortunately my D1 sees mostly city driving. Very smooth setup.

I removed the front swaybar due to clearance problems with the front drive shaft. I have RTE 3in springs though. I have not noticed any change in driving except the typical wandering. Handled fine. The rear swaybar is being modified to keep the rearend under control. You might develop "rear steer" if you remove the rear bar.
