Anyone here use one? I have attempted to use one on my 2lb and 4lb spinning outfits but i keep getting tangles when cast. The knot keeps grabbing line off the spool and tangling. Not sure if i am doing something wrong or a bimini is a bad idea for casting.

Any ideas?

Are you using it as a leader? If not why bother? The 2 and 4 pound line should not pose a problem with visability.

Im trying it to attach a heavier leader to the line. The rocks up here quickly fray the crap out of the line so i wanted something a bit heavier to mitigate that. Smallies and trout here go straight for the rocks. Wanted a bit of insurance with the connection since i am using frog hair for line.

I may just go with a shorter leader so it doesnt get wrapped on the spool. That or just go with out and use a bristol knot to tie the leader straight to the line.

O, caught my first brown trout yesterday. Think i may post some "Maine fishing" pictures here too.

I Love the Bimini leaders from Orvis for fly fishing. They're great at turning over your fly and they change out in minutes. I hate tying knots when I'm stalking brok trout. As a matter of fact, I hate tying knots. My best knots are on windy days using flies that are a little to large for my tippet size.
The top section works with all the tippet sizes from 7X to 4X.

Haven't tried Orvis gear yet, but the Bean rig I have is loop to loop and that's all I use. Great stuff.

Will look at the Orvis stuff, but with Freeport right up the road and a cabelas even closer don't know if I will make it.

the Bimini twist was a great knot 20 years ago when the micro finish on mono was rough and tying knots in it caused the line to be damaged.

Today with the new really smooth high tech lines they are a bit of old school overkill in most applications.

You can very easily use a double surgeons knot to make a loop and double the line and end up with something that will fish just as well.

I used to spend my winters tying Bimini twist leaders and stretching them on racks for the up coming season. Once Flourocarbon lines showed up pretty much all that work was just wasted time. Now I tie my leaders using just uni-knots and double surgeon loops and loose alot less fish to leader failure. Getting rid of complicated knots like Bimini-twist and albrights has made fly fishing alot more fun.

If this is a spinning outfit I would just use heavier line for the whole setup. Get some Spiderwire or some Trilene XT. It will still be easy to cast and be better on abrasives. The up side is that it easier to re-tie a lure to the main line than it is to re-tie a leader.

Just do a uni to uni knot. And a dab of superglue. They are awesome for casting thru guides and very strong
