Well I have been through just about everything with my 99 D1 transmission shifter. I have replaced switches and the little nub works like it should and retracts when you touch the brake. I have to realy yank hard for it to shift out of park (ratchet catcch clearly free of cog). once it is out it works between gears without effort as it should. When I look at it when shifting its like it is binding. Is there a cable that hooks in to the interior shifter mechanism that should be replaced or lubed. Of the two shafts that stick into the back of the interior shifter the smaller of the two appears to be binding.

on a different note what kind of grease lubricant is uttilized in the shifter shaft that releases the saftey cog somtimes the button gets sticky.

The cable is part of the shifter assembly itself. Instead of trying to lube it (you wont have much success) all you need to do is find a good used transmission shifter assembly for a D1. I will be happy to supply you with one if you'd like.

Replaced cable on shifter all was looking good put everything back together then the button on shifter is stuck. feels like somthing inside the shaft has moved and now binding spring release of button. I will probably replace it unless someone knows of a fix. I searched and found no similar issue. On the plus side it shifts very smooth but just wont lock in park without forcing the rod down into shift gate.
