What do you recommend to remove bird sh@t that has dried and become a grey blob on the Disco? I've treid a few products but no success. I am going to try Goo-Gone next, when it warms up a little.

Soap and water didn't do much of anything expect make the bird poo even harder and cleaner. I need either an abrasive or a chemical cleaner. It's pretty bad and there are lots of spots. I hope the paint underneath is still good. I dont want to get out the wire brush yet, but it may eventually need it if I can't get it off soon.

Damn, that must be some hardcore bird crap.. Take a bunch of paper towels and get them really wet.. Carry the dripping wet paper towels over to your truck and place them on top of the spots with bird crap. Let the crap soak and soften up for a while. Don't let the paper towels dry on the car but, leave them there for a bit.. Then come back, remove the towels ( you can try wiping to see if the bird crap is softer ) then get the hose ( presure washer would be even better ) and spray away.. Then wash the truck... If the paint looks to be damaged then try some pre-wax cleaner.. I happen to like Mothers brand Pre Wax Cleaner but, I'm sure that there are other ones that are just as good or better.

The Paper towel trick seams to work well for me.. My truck sits under the Power/Cable/Telephone line out front of my house and the crows like to sit above it and leave nice big messes for me.. Better then the tree sap that you get if you park in the drive way and the spiders though.

Eric, I will try the paper towel trick. By the looks of the amount and poo marks, the spots may have been there for quite some time. I hope that will work or I will try Brian's approach with the bird cage cleaner.

This is not going to be fun.

The roof looks like an entire flock of pigeons just went to the $5.99 buffet before sitting on the electrical wires above my truck.

So far, Goo-Gone seems to work pretty well. There are just a lot of spots to get and the temperatures just droped so it's a bit dificult to scape off crow crap with frozen fingers.

Bird Castings. . . . .

It is a load of crap to get off of your Rover in the spring & early summer when the birds eat the polk berries. It turns their "dooky" into purple blobs that sometimes leaves a permanent stain on whatever it lands. Good Luck, LRW

Hi

Bear with me on this, but on my R1100GS if I get any difficult shit on the screen, i.e. insects, bird droppings or whatever, I roll up into a tight ball, a pair of the wifes old tights (panty hose), this removes it without scratching, oh, it still needs warm soapy water as well.

Try it it works

I don't have a donor for the tights and I most DEF. don't feel right walking up to the register with a pair of Leggs. So far, the Goo-Gone is kinda worki, just that I have a lot of spots and such a little bottle.

Yeah, but I kinda need to keep the metal underneath the mass of pooh. The cold weather isn't helping much either. I can get through one mess before my fingers freeze and then its just a biger mess when I have to wipe the frozen snot from my nose. Maybe a heat gun and an old credit card?!

I have first hand experience with some bird dooky on the top of the Disco eating the paint away. Unfortunately, up there, I don't check very often and it was probably there for a week or so. Urea from birds is basically super concentrated ammonia (three ammonia molecules bound together), even more concentrated then urine (two ammonia molecules bound together) - but I digress. In the end, it ended up eating through the clear coat and partially through the paint. There are some divots now.

After that experience, I 1)park the disco away from buildings (birds like to perch on the edge and poop down) and overhead structures like power lines, 2)clean off anything I suspect as feces as soon as possible so that it doesn't have a chance to turn into concrete 3) wax when the season for birds start coming around to keep the crap from adhering as strongly.

Strange idea

This is gonna sound strange but try rubbing an empty coke can on it (or the soda of your choice). It works for taking off road tar and tree sap, so it may work on getting off all the poop. Use the side near bottom edge at an angle and change the angle until you feel it glide right through. It doesn't scratch the paint either and may be easier to work with in during cold weather than a liquid substance or wet towels.

If it's down to just a thin patina then get a can of Dupont Automotive Rubbing Compound, comes in a 1" high round green or white can (I forget which is the more abrasive). Works wonders.
