So, my interior blower motor has gotten really squeaky recently, especially since it's been so cold out this week.

Is this fan blower bearing something I could access and shoot with some bearing grease or does it likely need replacement?? And, how accessible is this thing??

I'm a horrible mechanic, so scale of 1-10 on difficulty, please.

Any other suggestions on how to keep it quiet?? It's been driving me nuts!!!

Its fairly easy to drop it down from the HVAC unit and remove whatever foreign matter may be in the squirrel cage. If that does not work, then the motor itself needs replacement.

What you are looking for is the big sorta round thing held in by 3? screws. Go under the dash on the passenger side and remove the little push in fasteners that hold on the trim panel and pull it out of the way and the blower motor is right there. To get the best look at it, you would need to be looking almost straight up.

I had the same problem when it gets cold. I didn't even have to drop the fan. There was a small peice of plastic that opened up to lube the fan at the bottom. It has been fine for a year plus. There are only three, if I remember correctly, screws that hold it in place. A very easy job. :victory:

Did my 2000 D2 last week. Took an hour because I cleaned all the carbon dust out and soaked the bearings. Didn't see any easily replaceable bearings, they may even be bushes. Soaked them in oil and no problems since. 4 screws and one plug. 3 screws for the motor and 1 for the cable clamp. Take the mats out first it gives you a little more depth to pull the motor down.
Good luck

BTDT 2 weeks ago. Nothing was in the housing, but the bearings were making noise. Pull the blower and spray some penetrating oil into the motor itself. Your vents will smell like penetrating oil for a few days, but no more squeak.

Anyone know what piece he's referring to and can you access it without removing the unit??

Thanks,
