One of the guys at work is friends of the owner. He told me it's has no power.
Pretty much he had a blown engine and a BMW mill laying around so...
Oh, and I love the people who say they've never been stuck, they should just say, "I stick to fire roads".

Walter, any chance you would do a test drive? No power compared to what? I can't imagine it being that bad if he is accurate on his 17mpg on the highway(even if he rounded up from 16.1).

if you check micro cat, you'll see they used that engine in the defenders.

Correcto! When I lived in South Africa I saw 2.8 BMW engine Defenders. They were pretty desirable and on the high end of the model price range. The logic of putting one in a Rangie escapes me, other than the novelty of it. Why replace one leaky, underpowered engine with another? If you're going to the trouble get some value out of it, either in economy or in power.

So, as far as transmission-mating...

Can you just swap the bellhousing on any of these?

Why replace one leaky, underpowered engine with another?

Because it was already laying around the garage and it was easy. By your logic we should never replace a 4.0 with another 4.0, but it's cheap and easy so that's why it gets done all the time.

I'm going by the information the guy, who claims he helped, told me.

I know this guy from a BMW forum. He has taken it on more than fire roads. Not boulder fields or desert, but more than just gravel roads.
Hey! Some fire roads are rough!

Have you ever noticed that any time people find out you drive a Land Rover, they know someone who wants to sell you another?
