Russell Speed Bleeders from summing, a wrench, rubber hose and some pumping. 1 person job and easy as can be.

What's the point of the speed bleeders? If you have a tube hooked up going into a jar, it's not going to suck air back in anyways. Am I missing something?

What Brett said. Its a one way valve. Open it up and pump until no more air comes out. Lock it back down and move on to the next wheel.

I just bought the sears bleeder, worked great. I had to re-bleed my system and did my brothers 87 Landcruiser.

I figure I will use it sparingly and didn't want to go all out on something I would use maybe once a year at the most.

If you're going to get one of those things, that is likely the best kit available, and will serve you well for a myriad of diagnostic procedures. If you're lucky, you'll get away with bleeding brakes, as well.

Spend the money. It's clearly made by Mityvac, but it's astronomically better than the stuff they sell at places like Autozone. You also get more parts, and a case to hold them all.

I have the same kit. I just think it's a waste of fluid, time, and energy attempting to bleed brakes with those damned things.:banghead:

Cheers,

So you're saying it's "the best kit available" but it's a "waste of fluid, time, and energy attempting to bleed brakes with those damned things"?

Absolutely.

It's the best readily available tool of it's type, but those tools aren't always a wonderful way to bleed brakes.

Agreed. I have tried the pneumatic vacuum bleeder with poor results. I have also used the Motive pressure bleeder that goes on the reservoir with mixed results.

With my D1's it seems I always end up doing the two man bleed. My wife does the press/release while I open/close the bleeder. I've had the best and most consistent results using this method.

I used the Motive pressure bleeder to flush the brake fluid after replacing the ABS shuttle valve, I had to finish off the bleeding job the traditional way. Maybe I just fucked up the Motive process or was not patient enough for all the air bubbles to work their way out. Seeing the price on the HF unit I feel burned...

Bosbefok - Looks like I have the same issue - replaced ABS proportioning valve and master cylinder, did 'motive' pressure bleed, and only have some front braking - nothing at back, even though the fluid rand clean and bubble free. - now have to wait for helper to do the backs the old fashioned way . Did you try to trick the abs pump into cycling - if so, did it help?

My ABS modulator has been removed and the system replumbed. Ran lots of fluid through the lines with the Motive until new fluid came from all calipers. Still had soft pedal so had to resort to the two man bleed. :banghead:

And two man bleed gave hard pedal? Have you tried speed bleeders?

I've got a hard pedal, just feels like no back brakes! All where fine before i replaced the Proportioning valve as it was leaking.

I have never had any luck with speed bleeders. I usually just gravity bleed the brake system for a while and it works every time.
X2 ... i use a bleeding tool to get the fluid to the caliper but i allow every corner to gravity bleed from that point.
