Brake booster vacuum line?

Has anyone removed the line fitting at the intake and installed a barbed fitting and run regular ol'e vacuum tubing?? I hate the hard plastic lines. Mine is leaking (tried to silicone it) and I think that is where some of my brake loss is coming from.

I've done it temporarily while waiting for the plastic line to come in and it held up fine. I don't see why they wouldn't last as long as they do in any other vehicle. I put a new plastic line on mine but my brakes still suck so I'm still searching for a cure.
