Brake Caliper Pivot Bolts- Replace?

The manual says to fit a new pivot bolt to the calipers when replacing the pads. Does anyone really do this? Just use the old one if its in good shape, torq and go?

We replace them, they come with the pads. On German cars they come with Loctite on them. Ours don't. They can certainly be used over and over with no problems.

What the heck size are the pivot bolts

Doing my front brakes. I can't seem to find the correct size to fit. A 1/2" is too big, a 12mm is too big.

Any suggestions??
