Weird problem. My rear brake lights are on when the key is on, regardless of brake pedal position. Brake light switch? I thought maybe, but also maybe a HDC problem, since engaging it turns on the brake lights. Simultaneously, my cruise control stopped working. Related? Should I just replace the brake light switch? Thanks for reading.

If there aren' t ABS, ETC or Brake error lights on at instrument panel, may be your brake switch is not depressed by pedal when it rests because it is not correctly mounted . You may find it over brake pedal to check if it is fixed or loose. You can pull connector in order to test if brake lights turn off.

My D2 had this problem. Its most likely the brake switch. It looses its spring or gets stuck in the engaged position. Lights on, no cruise because it thinks you are braking.

Get a new style brake switch at Auto Zone for around 15.00 (it will be an OEM LR new style brake switch in a Duralast box).

Well, you were all right. Easiest answer is usually the correct one. BLS from the factory is pretty cheesy. The new one fixed everything except gas mileage. Thanks!
