Brakes Pulling left

HI,

So I have a 97 Discovery and it is pulling to the left when I brake, without hitting the brakes the car goes straight... to try and fix the issue I have installed brand new front calipers and pads, bled the lines and I don't see any more air bubbles coming through... Any ideas as to what might be causing this? Thanks!

If it does not pull to the right when you accelerate, it may be a sticky caliper on the left size, or hub oil leak on one of the right-side rotors.

I had/have this issue as well.

After noticing the pull, I checked the front passenger caliper. When pedal was pumped, it looked like it was leaking from the pads, so I assumed piston seal. Replaced caliper with remanufactured one, but reused the pads.

There are no leaks anymore, but when test driving last night I still have a slight left pull.

Is this due to the fact that the right side pads got soaked in brake fluid?

My issue was there before I put in the new calipers and pads and none of the pistons are stuck... I've checked the rotors, but there is no oil that I can see going on to them, any other ideas?

I have this issue as well. I rebuilt hubs and swivels and it's still there. Pads and rotors looked fine to me.

FWIW, on my 89 Classic the right rear caliper seized solid while on the freeway. Talk about excitement - it steered three lanes to the right. When I pulled to the next exit, smoke was pouring from the wheelwell.
The truck did exhibit a slight right pull while braking prior to this occasion.

Bleed them again to be sure all air is out.

Clean with brake cleaner in the case of fluid on your brakes.

Check operation of rear brakes and bleed them if you don't see any visible signs and they seem to work.

Check radius arm axle end bushings

I had the same issue a couple of years ago. I replaced every brake part including the hard lines, calipers, etc... I replaced every bushing and ball joint. My problem ended up being the steering box. If all else fails, check it out. Save it as a last option though. It's a messy, expensive, pain in the ass.

I cannot possibly come up with an explanation how a bad steering box would result in pulling to one side during the braking only.

Lunch is right. If there's play in the steering, the wheels can turn enough to cause pull. You may want to check bushings, radius arm, etc. Something is moving under brake load.

Just to check something simple try this.
1)Jack the axle up so a wheel is of the ground.
2) have someone pump the brake pedal several times then hold it down.
3) grab the tire and try to turn it as they let off the brake.
4) did the wheel turn immediately as they let off the brake?

Eliminate one thing then move to the next logical item. And check all four corners before moving on to the suspension.

Just so we don't miss something obvious what do you weigh? If you're a fat slob then try letting someone light drive it and see if it still pulls. No shit we had a customer bring her BMW in saying it steers crazy. Road tested it and confirmed it was twitchy. First thing we always check is tire pressure. Passenger side was normal driver side literally broke my gauge (I switched to digital after that). Called customer and asked who fills her tires she said her husband filled it with her in the car. Obviously he just filled it til there wasn't bulges...you should've seen this chick. Should've been a natgeo camera crew following her.

So I fixed the issue, I replaced the calipers, replaced the rubber lines, panhard bushings, balljoints.... still pulled. I remembered one of the bushings around the new right caliper pistons was loose when I installed it, but didn't think much of it. Just in case I wrote to the company I bought it from and they sent me another new one. I threw the new new caliper on and no pulling... the original brand new caliper was broken. Thanks for your help guys!

It is good to note, here, that he called the company and actually bothered to give them a chance, rather than jumping all over the place screaming. It's also good to note that they replaced the part.

:)

Cheers,
