Breather Tubes Routing

Hello All: :)

On a recent visit to the dealer I was told that I needed to replace the transfer case and transmission breather tubes. Apparently on both on them a section of the tube got melted by the manifold when they came out of the clips that hold them to the engine firewall.

The service manual does not show the proper routing. An indy rover mechanic installed them this past week, he attached the lower section to the appropriate place but he said that the upper section of the tubes just lay against the back of the engine. I am not quite sure if that is the case, my friend has also a DII ?01, one of the tubes is visible, the other must be attached somewhere behind the engine. I don?t know if special clips or something else are needed to secure them. My sense tells me that if they just sit unsecured behind the engine eventually they will burn again.

Any thought on what is the proper routing for these breather tubes.

Thanks

Well, there are clips on my D1, but as far as "against the engine" goes, get another spare set before putting them there - cause you might need them after driving. I would get them as high as possible, and zip tie them to something cooler - temp wise.

Cut them off just above the axle, replace, and reroute them to higher ground! I plan to reroute mine up into the right rear taillight. (got the idea when i was wiring up my tow pkg) Anyone done this?

You could route them to anywhere you want, the higher the better to avoid water if you drive in deep water. Have them routed as far as possible from the engine to avoid the heat. You could simply use electrical tie cables, fastening them to the left or right of the engine bay. Some people even route them into their snorkels, if you are equipped with one.
