No problem on the hijack, heavy duty CVs here from Mal at Maxi engineering (soon to be sold) are $2500 and the Axles are $640 the pair (aussie dollars) the axles are cheep enough but $2500 for CVs is a bit to much at this stage, i might search in the UK.

So the GBR heavy duty cage aren't available for the D2.

nosivad_bor, we all have our blonde moments, unless we're perfect like you that is;)

First real breakage in 120,000km:p

think some driving lessons might help a little too.

Being new to this "technique" type off roading and genuinely wanting to know..... What should have been done differently? I've thrown down power to the wheels like that a few hundred times without (that I know of) breaking a CV. Is there a way to get power for movement down without popping off a CV?

Something just wrong about that video, the only CV I've ever seen break was due to wheelspin meets a sudden bit of traction with the CV being the weak link. The vid seems to be the typical wheelspin in sand (something I' quite familiar with) and then a sudden snap.:ack:

don't hate me because i'm beautiful:bigok:

Not in the photos ive seen Rob:rofl:

Danny me too, i've done this a hundred times with no breakage, rover axles and CVs are not renouned for their strength, something i tend to forget from time to time, in hindsight i should of engaged my Maxi Locker, but i've been up this rocky hill a few times with no problems, photos don't show the size of the steps but trust me unlocked vehicles have trouble getting up this section, add wet clay into the mix and well it makes for some exciting stuff.

it's the wheel spinning combined with bouncing. sure you can do it many times but it only takes that one time. so if you want to be safe dont rev the engine high and get the wheels spinning if there is any chance of bouncing with sudden traction. if you do, just be prepared for the breakage. i know i baby the shit out of my truck. this means no wheel spinning and hopping. i end up being stuck more often or need a tug but this is okay because i know its saving me the eventual hassel and cost of repairing it.

i dont like wheeling on trails that are so hard that you, must, drive that hard. i've been on them many times and got away lucky so i feel like any time is my time and so i am much more conservative wheeler now. that and i hate cleaning up mud so i avoid it (not hard now that i live in the desert)

bottom line if you would have approached that slow and steady you might not of made it, but you didnt make it anyway so whats the differnce?

On saturday me and a few mates went out wheelin at Appin, lots of cross axle stuff and rocks and mud, i broke the passenger side (thats left side here:) ) axle and CV long side:banghead:

Any places you guys would recommend for heavy duty CVs in the US, the're a tad on the expensive side here.

I just put in my D1 a few weeks ago front HD CV's and axles from Ashcroft. Their CV's are really good and very HD. I had posted a picture of them about a month back here on the forum on one of the previous HD CV and axle threads. They also supply the HD front drive flanges. My personal opinion, their CV's look tougher than those from MaxiDrive. I have seen both, but maybe I am wrong.
