Brought it on myself

OK - Before the the flames start flying and the 'I told you so' comments hit me, I need some help. I recently sent my ECU for my 2000 DII to get a power chip inserted. Tonite I went to pop it back in the truck. However, when I connected the plugs and reconnected the battery, the truck won't start. The starter turns but the engine won't fire. Then after a few seconds, the warning temp gauge drops to 0 and the red light for the temp gauge lights up, both the M and S lamps flash and the HDC ACE ETC and battery light come on. The instructions for the powerchip says it should just fire up and they are closed til tomorrow. Does this sound like an engine immobilizer in action? If so, is there a way to reset it? I will call powerchip tomorrow but I was wondering if there was anyone out there with a suggestion to try for tonite?

Thanks,

Jason

well the m&s lights flash anytime the gems ECU loses a signal from a sensor...but thats about as far as I can help you.

in for a dime in for a dollar :(

now that you started down this road you really have no choice but to work out your problems with the vendor that did the work and sold the chip.

Good luck

Does anyone know whether these lights would flash if I had simply removed my ECU and then plugged it back in. Ie/ does the ECU need to be reset if it is removed from the truck?

Sorry I can't be of much help with the problem. However, I have been thinking of the same upgrade and am very interested in how the works out and if after driving if you think it was worth it.

Good Luck

Frank - Update on the issues with chipping the ECU. Pulled it back out of the truck and sent it back to Powerchip the next day. To my surprise, not only did they verify within 24 hours that they had made an error with the install, they had it back up here in Alberta (from California) in less than 48 hours turn around time. Over the w/e I reinstalled the unit. No problems at all. No faults on the dash and the truck runs well. I did notice an improvement in power (I think more than placebo effect). Truck runs smoother at higher speeds and holds acceleration longer in drive before dropping to 3rd (which it used to do most of the time on accelerating from drive). Over the weekend I also popped in a K&N and put on a NRP exhaust. Truck runs significantly better. Smoother and seems to have more pep. Also pulled an extra 20-30 miles out of a tank of gas (likely b/c I wasn't dropping down so much). If you need any more info, email me at info@roxs.us.

All in all, happy despite the unforseen delay. BTW, anyone looking for a second hand engine ECU for a DII? I picked one up from a wrecker in anticipation of needing to replace mine before my upcoming trip.

Mongo - Replaced the beat MTRs with some 265/75/16 BFG ATs. Installed the ICOM. Tomorrow the Hannibal goes up and the seats come out. Turns out one of my light tabs is cracked - need to get it welded before I head out on Thurs. Groceries, beer...more beer and a few other essentials before heading down south. BTW, thanks for your help the other night.
