Iceland? Get very big tires.

Be a proactive owner, this site will help you with that. Learn as much as you can about the car even before you buy. Drive lots of them. I drove 4 before I bought my first 1965 IIa, 5 before I bought the DI, and 2 before I bought the DII from the dealer. I love them all and only thought about going to another type for a short period of time when we thought we could not afford the 4.6L engine. The old IIa is the only one that has ever broke down on me. Sure you have annoying little problems no matter what, but nothing that will leave you stranded if you do your homework before you buy.

By the way, I would stick with the Tdi if you can get them in Iceland. The V8 is a good engine, but the difference between a 4.0 and 4.6 V8 is awesome, so if you are looking at either the 4.0 or a Tdi (if the 4.6 is out of the question) then stick with the Tdi.

Toyotas are great, but just not the same. If you drive them both you will probably like them both, but there is just nothing like the Rover.

It's hard to keep the years straight--did the 99 D2 have a CDL?

If not, I'd imagine that'd be a good selling point in wet place such as Iceland.

'99 through early MY '01 had the cdl nipple on the t-case. I've read once or twice that somebody had a later model '03 with one too.

If I were to buy another Disco I would stay away from SLS (self leveling suspension, rear air bags) and ACE. ACE has been the only thing to break down on me. But, it was covered under the extended warranty. SLS would be good if you tow a heavy trailer.

Having said that. ACE is very COOL. It keeps the Disco very level and stable. I just worry that it will fail at the worst time possible.

i think cdl was only ever pulled out of the NA market. ROW trucks all kept cdl throughout the years. so any truck he picks "should" have it.

I agree with Andrew's take on ACE. Its just one more thing that could go wrong on a vehicle that has a history of things going wrong. Seems to me like a device that is too smart/compliacted for its own good - not a desirable trait in a device designed to make you safer. You can look at all the recall notices too, many of them are related to the ACE system. I specifically avoided it for that reason.
