I'm looking for a front bumper for a 96 Disco 1. Either a Safari Gard, Trek Outfitters or maybe ARB (like the ARB most but have a warn 9000i winch which wont fit into this bumper. prefer not to have to replace the winch). Looking for one if good shape, no dents or bends, dont mind having to refinish one that is scratched a bit though.

Email me if you have one.

Thanks,

just to let you know, the 9000i will fit an ARB. all that has to be done is install the winch feet first, with a spacer between the feet and bumper to move the winch back an inch or so.

the down side to this is you wont be able to see the solenoid with the warn emblem on it, thus making this particular winch setup just a little less cool. :)

also, on a more serious note, the winch may not drain water properly as it will be mounted horizontally instead of vertically. but, i ran a setup like this for a couple of years and it worked well (i got the winch before the bumper and also didn't want to replace it).

anyway, here is a pic of the 9000i mated with the ARB

... of course, you can't see it, but it's in there! ;)

hope this helps. dom

Interesting...

Dominik,

Very interesting. I cant tell you how many people have told me that that just cant be done. So do you have the airbag or non airbag version of the bumper? looks like the non airbag one to me.

So again, no real trouble installing this way? Can you reach the freespool / engage lever pretty easily when you need it?

Thanks for the info,
Bryan

this was the non-airbag version, and aside from the spacers that we had to make to push the winch away from the bumper, it was pretty simple.

with the freespool lever, what you will have to do is rotate the whole drum that it sits on so it is more easlily accessible. it's not a big deal to do this, just take out the allen bolts holding the drum on the side of the winch, rotate forward, then re-install the bolts ... hope that makes sense.

i'd say if you have your heart set on an ARB, go for it!

when i was first looking for bumpers i too was impressed by the ARB, plus the fact that it is used worldwide and is a pretty standard upgrade for a disco. but after a while, i found it to be a bit TOO big (sticks out really far); when doing a steep descent into a river at the MAR in 2002, i hit the front of the bumper on a rock, bending it along with my winch. for the hit it took it did quite well, but if i had a smaller bumper on there it would not have hit at all.

so, to make a long story even longer, yes, it will work. no, it won't be much trouble. but please do remember that the winch will be mounted horizontally, NOT vertically, so draining water may be a problem if you do water crossings, etc ... then again, i origionally had this winch on a multi mount sitting upright, and as soon as it got wet it would refuse to work, so ...

hope this helps. i'll see if i can find some pics of the winch in the bumper, but my lappy's hard drive died a few months ago, and i pretty much lost all my pictures.

Thanks...

Well thanks again. All the info really helped. Yeah, I like the ARB most but have been looking at the Trek Outfitters which looks pretty nice. However, it looks like that one sticks out even further though. Oh well.

Decisions, decision.

Thanks,
Bryan

personally, i like this one from roversolutions. it is a lot slimmer and retains a lot of the factory look, especially with the optional factory brush guard welded on. they are custom made, so any winch you have will fit.

i also like the safarigard w/skidplate. it is not as tough as the ARB, but provides better approach angles. plus, it's damn sexy! :)

here is the bumper i will be getting when roversolutions starts to make bumpers again:
