Hey folks,

I have a CEL so I pulled the code and it's P0301 at cylinder 1.

I pulled the plug before I started getting to crazy and noticed it smelled of gas really bad and has a black ring on the porcelain between the plug boot and the nut.

Head job was done about 5 months ago. Truck seems to run normal with no stumble or rough idle.

Any ideas??

TIA

Pics would help but it sounds like maybe the porcelain is cracked and it's allowing the spark to arc out of the plug and onto the block/head. (that could leave a burned/charred looking area where the crack is in the plug)

Just a guess from the somewhat vague description.

Didn't mean to be so vague, Doug, thanks for your assessment though!

Here are a couple of pics and as I said it was the only one and this is where the misfire is occurring.

I replaced the plug and so far so good. I will see if it pops back up.

I just thought it odd and wondered if anyone had an explanation.
