Okay, I shoul've known better but I have been lulled to sleep by my relatively good WWW experiences(thanks). Beware of redtagsavings.com

I ordered a garmin nuvi 680 for my company car from them through a shopzilla list. They were $50 cheaper and their website had some "recommended labels from epinions etc" so I didn't ivestigate any further to my chagrin.

Upon ordering I received two emails one was a confirmation number and the other requested that I contact them immediately to complete the sale.

I called them and a guy named Kevin told me that he needed my card pin and that the unit I ordered now only carried a two month warranty through Garmin and that I should buy an extended warranty. While Kevin was talking I pulled up the Garmin site and verified the one year warranty at which time I told Kevin that the garmin site read differently. He told me that Garmin just hadn't updated their site yet yada yada yada...

I refused the warranty and he said it would process quickly.

Once I got home and had some time I googled "redtagsavings.com review" and found similar complaints and many negative reviews.

I called my bank the next morning and informed them of what was going on and they recommended that I cancel my card and I did. Unfortunately they had already "preauthorized my Visa debt card" so the payment couldn't be stopped." I'll have to dispute the charge once it goes through.

I called redtagsavings.com the same morning and asked to cancel my card and "Bruce Peters" said that of course the order had shipped this morning and that he couldn't provide me with a tracking number yet... I paid for Fed-x two day shipping.

Bruce asked why I wanted to cancel and I informed him of the conversation with Kevin the day before. Bruce basically said that the conversation never took place and that I had the full one year warrant etc... At that time the conversation went down hill quickly. They seem to be the sleezy electronics store that peddles the gray market stuff as true NA that you run into on the corner in the city.

I'm not sure I'll ever receive the Garmin but I would definitely stay away from them in the future.:banghead:

Sorry so long.

Here's some more information on them and some other apparently related sites.

don't go to www.bestpricecamera.com either. they did the exact same thing to me and ripped me out of about 500$. im now very conscious of who and where i buy from on the internet.

generally if you have to call to "verify" your order, then they're just trying to rip you off. that's how they got me

Lots of the Brooklyn electronic stores advertise 'grey market' items which don't carry US warranties. Then, as you found out, they try to upsell a warranty or get you to switch to a US market item.

A good indication that you're dealing with one of those companies is that they're closed on Saturday's.....

My "order" shipped fed-x today and is supposed to be delivered on Tuesday. Who knows what will arrive. I can easily imagine it being "gray" market or not carrying a valid warranty. I'll contact Garmin with the serial number. But after dealing with them I can see them sending me a big piece of shit just to "get even".

Happy Memorial Day,

Ross

Not necessarily. B&H is run by Hasidic Jews so of course they are closed on Saturday, but they are as good a place as you'll find to buy from.

You guys should know better than that, c'mon. Most of the places on the net are scamjobs that make their money on crap warranties provided for stolen products.

Cheers,

Yep, that's why I was pissed... I've bought four cars online without seeing them in person and have had great luck. It's my fault for trusting the site I started on and not doing my due diligence until after the fact. I've been lulled into complacency by great interwebbers like Marty(drillbit), Wll, and EE. Not to mention many other quality dwebbers.

Oh well, a package from them has made it to my fair city and will be delivered on Tuesday. I'll keep you all posted but my hopes aren't high.

Thanks,

Ross

Oh, you will usually get the product, but you had better hope it doesn't break. Garmin won't want to have anything to do with it unless you get lucky.

Cheers,

Yeah anytime you do a pricegrabber or Nextag type search, and prices come up that look to good to be true, they usually are. That said I've bought from those companies before, look, once most products are a year out you're on your own anyway.
