Buying a D2?

I've owned a few D1's and RRC's and love them all for the same reasons we all love them. It's always been my mantra to stay away from D2's because in my mind they were giant pieces of shit...i.e. 3 amigos, block's cracking in the 4.6's, HG's being more of an issue, and lacking heavy duty oil coolers like its predecessors.

Before I piss anyone else off (maybe that's too late), I'm interested to know if these can be good trucks and what current owners think. I've always been a D1 guy so these things are totally foreign to me.

I've found one locally that is priced right with a few upgrades and redone engine that I'm curious in buying.

Thanks for your help!

the 3 amigos are usually an easy fix. search "Option B"

you can add an oil cooler fairly easily.

it's a crap shoot with the cracked block but if you don't over heat the engine you should be safe.

and you will be doing HG's every 60,000-100,000 miles.

99-02 Had Engine Oil Coolers, and yes you can add them to any 03-04. 3 Amigo's aren't that big of deal anymore, as it'l be sensor related, or "option B" related most of the time.

I've owned RRC/D1/D2's and I personally like a D2 better with 99-02 being the years I like the most.

On my second D2, after owning an 04'. I never had any liner or HG issues with the 04' but consider myself lucky. I did have to replace them in my 02'. I have ridden in RRC's and D1's and think ergonomics and interior of the D2 are superior. I'm also taller so I fit a bit better in a D2. It's a great platform for a DD, light or medium duty build
