i have always wanted a discovery but with gas prices going the way the are i am weary of buying such a big car. i have looked at some jeeps as an alternate.... how do you think gas mileage compares with say a jeep 4.0? also, factor that both would be lifted about 3" on about 32" tires. may be a stupid question but one that i can not answer for myself. thanks a lot.

We had a '95 Jeep Wrangler Sahara 4.0, 5 speed, no lift. I don't think we ever got over 15 with it on the highway. Our '96 Disco gets about 16 so not much different, just MUCH more civilized. Hope this helps.

My 04 Disco gets better MPG than my neighbors 97 Wrangler Sahara. Not much better, but about 1-3 MPG.

wow, i thought that even the little bit of margin would still go to the jeep. thanks though it is just another reason i want a rover. speaking of.... i saw one in the forum here for sale by zach jaggers does anyone know anything about this truck? it seems to be pretty stacked but theres a lot more to these cars than that. thank you again

My friend has a 98 Jeep TJ it gets about the same gas mileage that I get only on the highway I get better. His is lifted about the same and has 31 inch tires while mine has about 32. If your choice is between the discovery and a jeep 4.0, go with the discovery as you'll enjoy normal driving much more than the regular jeep, unless you want the jeep ride.

Gas mileage is equivocal, but if you like blood in your pee, get the J**p. My dad has a 94 Wrangler, and it felt like passing a kidney stone going down the highway.
