After selling my 95 Disco a few years back, I'm looking for another LR, this time an LR3 as a third vehicle.

the truck will be used for a "station car" meaning it will be driven about 2 miles a day during the week from my house to the train station commuter lot. On the weekend it will be a Home Depot runner, and beach cruiser

I'm looking to spend no more than $13-15k on the Landy and am looking for advice on year to year of the model and how many miles is too much? any glaring issues etc.

thanks;)

It doesn't matter as long as you get a pre-purchase inspection.

look for any signs of water under the floor mats . Clunking in the frt suspension when brakes applied or over bumps . Check for loose wheel bearings in the front . Look for wetness around the rear of the trans pan .

Ask for service records and then the usual checks as above. Small trips not good, so warm up good to station. They love to run.

Around what mileage do the control arms/bushings generally need replaced? I've been looking at a few 05-07s w/80-120k and have only seen one, maybe two with control arms in the service records. Also, was the HD package only offered on the HSE?

I've replaced them in a vehicle with 10k miles, so there is no set time they fail. If you drive one 10 feet in a parking lot you will be able to tell if the bushings are bad by just tapping the brakes.

Mine was a HD package in a SE but those are very rare.

Why? Nothing in the "purpose" list said anything that requires or even really utilizes the LR3 for what it is designed to do. Why not get something without all the nonsense to worry about? Spending $13k now is like saying you're fine spending another $13k over the next 2-4 years on all the crap someone left for the next owner.

That price range is probably in the 2006-2008 100,000 miles + group. Just enough miles to be cheap for purchase and just enough to have a fun time in the first year fixing stuff unless you can find someone like mine that has everything listed done already in recent times.

I just don't think I'd get a Land Rover for simply how you described the purpose. What's the point? Might as well find a nice D1 again. They're out there if you look hard enough.

I would agree, you're going to be 13,000 into at truck that is about at the point where it will start nickel and diming you to death.

I'd like to add that my truck was issue free until 100,000 or so, and since then it's been like every other LR I've owned. Always broke in some fashion.

Don't buy an 05. 04-05 were complete piles of shit. Go with 06 and up.

I have an 05 that we will be selling very soon. 130,000 miles, Rovertym bumper and superwinch, sliders, very clean, black on black. It does not have the HD package and it has the 6cyl Jag motor.
