i needed a place to post this so that in a few years, if the issue repeats, I'll be able to quickly find the data I'm looking for. While troubleshooting a P0171 error I replaced the MAF. Immediately after this, my LR3 experiences a suspension fault, C1A36. Absolute coincidence and frustrating none the less.

Anyways, after a quick google search, I found two things:
1. https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2012/SB-10043885-6626.pdf - Which indicates that my compressor needs to be replaced
2. https://landroverforums.com/forum/lr3-28/air-suspension-problem-dtc-c1a13-64-a-101562/page2/ - which told me that IF I had an AMK compressor on my LR3, then the exhaust valve can be replaced.

So, after spending a few minutes removing the compressor cover, it turns out that my LR3 does indeed have the AMK compressor. I scanned through the different components and see that the white wire that leads towards the exhaust valve has corroded all the way through. After cutting out the rust and splicing in a connector, the C1A36 code is fixed and the exhaust valve seems to be working as expected.
