For a proper discussion of grammar and punctuation read the book "Eats shoots and leaves" .

There was this Koala bear that came over to New York on holiday. He was enjoying himself going to shows, bars, and clubs. He decided that he wanted to hire a prostitute for some comfort;) . He had his way with the prostitute and as he finished his "business" he got up and started for the door. The prostitute said "Hey wait a minute! You have to pay!" The Koala bear said "I'm not sure what you mean". The prostitute took out a dictionary and showed the Koala bear the definition of prostitute. "See" she said, "Receives money for sex". The Koala bear grabs the dictionary and goes to Koala bear. "See" the Koala bear says, "Koala bear. Eats bushes and leaves"! Enter rim shot:D

what screwed me up on that one was the VBB space. I could easily read it up to that. then it took a second to get the correct grouping of 'letters'.

JohnB,

Your second grade teacher has a spelling lesson for you, it is "losers" not "loosers".

Got me. You get an A. Now go tattle on someone else. Maybe one of your neighbors left there garbage can out.

I was initially instructed to double space after a sentence and recently I was instructed by a professor who has been published numerous times that double spacing after a sentence is not acceptable.

From what I understand the double space was important when typewriters were the norm for some reason. Also, I read a study about spacing and readability that said the double space after a sentence makes it easier to read.

I couldn't find anything online about it.

I agree with this, and anyway double spacing after a period is a habit as much as single space after a word.

I picked this up last night at Books A Million for $6! It's the hardback, illustrated (?) version...looks pretty interesting.

6th Ed APA says the double space is back! Heard from a woman that just took her 601 class. In it, she took an "APA quiz." Yep, PhD students do not know how to write.... I think the extra space is a waste of space IMHO.

Wow, you overpaid. I bought the hardcover from Amazon for slightly under $4 delivered to my door.

I wasn't really looking for it, but when I saw the title, I instantly remembered this thread and decided to give it a try.

I'll take the $2 overpayment against the $100 I saved by getting all the books I liked in B-A-M at the public library Saturday! :)
