Calling Professionals - Labor Cost to Replace T-case?

Guys, I've read the RAVE description and think I could swap a t-case myself, but I'm not sure I want to do it. What does a labor guide (?) show for this job?

Also, I recall reading somewhere that there are differences in the length of t-cases used in '03-'04 Discos vs. earlier versions. Is that correct? Would a t-case from an '99-'01 Disco (or earlier D1) fit in an '03?

Thanks.

Warranty time is 3.7 hours, so if you've never done it before you can double that time, plus a little more if you don't have a lift.

I used one from a 99 D1 in my 03. It's a relatively straight forward job, just time consuming. What are you going to do as far as linkage?

If you're swapping the full case make sure you're going with a 99-2001.5, or an 04 so you can still retain the CDL. 01.5-03 do not have the CDL nipple.

What makes you think the case is bad? Rarely do these things break, and when they do it's typically only a x-pin that is easily fixable.

He asked if an older one would fit an '03, so he probably wants CDL.

It's not (yet) my truck. Local seller says the t-case is bad. Maybe it can be repaired (thanks Dan). That would be a big win. If a swap of the full case is needed I would drop in a CDL version for obvious reasons. Sounds like any D1 case would work in addition to a '99-'01 or '04 DII. I put an '04 shifter in my '99 a year ago.

Next step is for the seller to return my call.

You'll want to make sure that any D2 t-case that you get hasn't been retrofitted with a later, non-locking version.

^True, when i bought my truck(02) it had the front output from an 02 but the rest of it was 99. They upgraded the LT230 a few times for leaks/noise/design. I'd find an 04 if you can, but a DII 99-01 is great.

When I first got my 01D2 I swapped my non-locking t-case for a locking one, in a driveway, laying on my back. It was not fun, but wasnt too bad. It took me a few hours, maybe 4ish at the most. If it was on a lift, with air tools it would be way easier. That being said, I have a t-case from a 2001 with about 50k (non-locking front housing) sitting in my garage...

tcase bad means the front ds bitch slapped the tranny and it is all jacked up...

or the pin popped out and it is stuck in neutral.
