My commute is now super short, so I am starting to think about getting a new D2...

Are there many '03-04 D2's running through the auctions these days? What kind of prices are they fetching?

SD's will go from 12k to 17k w/ miles from single digit through 60k.

SE's / HSE's will go from 15,5k to 24k+ w/ same miles above. More options do more money (Nav, tv/dvd, etc...)

If you are looking for a DII, one of the other buyers I work with has an 03 DII SE w/ 67k green on tan and SUPER clean for around 17k. It is his personal car and I can vouch for its condition being top notch. Shoot me a pm if interested, truck is in Raleigh, NC.

+1 and add auto trader to the list. I found my truck on ebay, the auction didn't end sucessfully so I went and talked to the guy and wound up picking it up for a fair price.

scottjals story is actually the exact same thing that happened to me...the winner of the auction did not pay, so the seller emailed me (saw I bid on the item) and realized i was in the same town and we solved it that way. so ebay is pretty legit as long as you can test drive or look at the car (in my opinion).,

Actually, in the NE Disco's go much cheaper at the auction. For example....

LAND ROVER 2004 DISCOVERY SE7 HARDTOP SUV White 2004 37kmiles $20500

LAND ROVER 2003 FREELANDER SE AWD SUV Grey 60kmiles $9750

LAND ROVER 2003 FREELANDER S AWD SUV Silver 30kmiles $12300

LAND ROVER 2002 DISCOVERY SE SUV - LEV Blue 4 68kmiles $9500

LAND ROVER 2001 RANGE ROVER 4.6 SE HARDTOP SUV Black 4 78kmiles $11000

LAND ROVER 1998 RANGE ROVER 4.6 HSE HARDTOP SUV Green 4 68kmile $8200

LAND ROVER 1996 DISCOVERY SUV Green 4 114k $2000

I have seen 2003/2004 disco's go for as little as $13k with low mileage. This is why it's so tough to sell a disco these days for good money.

Thanks for the replies. I think I'm a couple months off from anything... I'd like to get an '04 SE or HSE to get under $20k so I can get a truck with CDL and some nice leather. The duragrain in my old SD got kind of sticky when it was hot out.

Where are the "auction regulars" searching/finding all these Land Rovers at? I'm in Dallas and usually check the Dallas & surrounding cities 'city auctions' but rarely see a rover and usually it's a 90 something model....nothing ever new.

Any insight into where I should be looking for more information on auctions that have rovers....

i check the Manheim AA site. dealers only of course, but Manheim owns dozens of auctions around the country. largest auction in the US.
you can find anything from LR3s with 2K miles, D90s here and there, DIIs, DIs, etc.

every thursday Manheim AA in Manheim, PA has their "exotic sale". usually a boat load of LRs.

If you drive into some of the small car lots in your area and ask about going with them to the auction you may be surprised that they will let you tag along.

A friend of mine has a small lot, it's almost more hobby then anything. He will bring people to the auction to buy on there behalf for a small fee of about $500. If the car is over 50k then he asks for $750. I would say he makes more money from going to the weekly auctions with "tag-alongs" then he does actually moving cars off the lot.

It's a real simple process as well. You get a list about a week before. Pick the vehicles your interested in, do a vin check (they list the vin and vehicle option packages) and then narrow down the list. When you get to the auction you have anywhere from 1 hour to two to walk around and further check out the vehicles. Then it's auction time.

The one's I go to are mostly off-lease vehicles and some older models. Pretty cool experience.

the guys that work for larger businesses find it hard to do that, since all the paperwork does not always go through them and i am sure they would frown upon that.
the smaller guys don't have a problem with that at all. i do this from time to time as well. but since i am independent i can do that. i usually need to know the person to some degree. don't want to buy a car and then be stuck with it.
alot of people go to these large auctions and freak out a little at the pace of things. the can't decided and get all wishy washy.
you have to be decisive and know exactly what you want and what you are willing to pay for it.
