camshaft bearing wear

about to put this 4.6 block all together later this week. Block, heads, crankshaft and all the bits were taking to the machine shop and cleaned up and gone through but we didn't replace the camshaft bearings. Camshaft is going to be replaced with the Crower 53229. The engine is out of a 2003 D2 with 100,000 miles on it. Only the front camshaft bearing shows any noticeable wear, but based on my online findings, this is common. I am wondering if the wear on the camshaft bearing seems appropriate or not

that actually looks pretty good. if you have any doubts its a cheap and easy swap though. I usually replace the front one, but thats usually on blocks that have seen 150K+.

Talked to the machine shop owner who said its a pretty big pain in the ass to replace the bearing and line bore them. Said he wasn't even aware of anyone in the Dallas area set up to properly do the work on these blocks. He did reassure me that the bearings appeared to be good to go and not to worry about it. Guess it's time to bolt this thing together and run it

He's using quite possibly the best in dallas, which would place him high in the runnin' for best worldwide.

Kyle are you talking about foreign auto on Carson? I think the problem is all of these companies think they can do it, instead of knowing they can't. Look at all those recent block failures out of that Oklahoma flanged motor dealer. I think most have been cam bearing failures

I don't know anything about cam bearing failures from the place in OK. I've had three different machine shops install cam bearings in Rover V8's, and all three shops have done a bunch without any block failures. I installed the motors, so if they failed, I would probably hear about it.

any automotive machine shop should be able to install, stake, and line bore cam bearings. It's about $600 up here but worth every penny if you're looking for long term service.

That seems very expensive. I want to say I was paying around $100-200 at most, otherwise I probably wouldn't have bothered.

no i think it is automotive machine off of caroll st west of downtown fw. they have done several rover blocks recently.



That's the one I was thinking of. They did all the machine work for my 30 spline stuff and a set of heads. Great shop, just in the wrong half of the world
