Can a Brake Light Switch be bad even if continuity tests show its good?

On a 1995 Range Rover Classic 4.2:

as the subject says - I checked to see that continuity of my brake light switch was good. Brake lights don't work, neither does the the RRCC shift out of park. Should I still buy a brake light switch ($90 at stealership) to see if this is the culprit?

Did you check to see if the switch was adjusted properly? You can pull the plunger out , but you have to pull really hard.

the nice thing about having a father who is retired, is that he works on cars that are stuck in his driveway, regardless of whose it is, heh.

Solenoid is out, so at least it drives!

Dude...I just went through this exact same problem on my '95 RRC LWB!! It MIGHT not be the switch, especially if it tests correctly. Pull the fuse for the brake lights and replace it, EVEN if it looks good. Chappy made me do this on mine and lo-and-fucking-behold, the fuse looked good, and acted bad. With the new fuse all was good. By the way, the fuse blew because the wire from the high mount brake light had come off and shorted out.

since I don't have the owner's manual, which fuse is the brake light fuse? I'll take pictures of the fusebox if that helps. I'm pretty sure you're talking about the fuse that is for the interior lights and exterior lights?

I don't have it here with me, and you may be right, but I know the book specifically identified it to include the brake lights. Maybe someone has access to the manual and can tell us? Otherwise I can check tonight.

For what it's worth, it was the brake switch afterall. The solenoid is out...

now the seats won't move backward along the rail. If it's not one thing...
