Can DII driver's seats be moved to accommodate tall or short people?

Beyond the controls, do you have a choice as to how you install a DII seat, such as back a bit on the rails for a tall driver or very forward on the rails for a short driver? (And then the controls provide finer adjustments from there.) Or, are those suckers fixed?

Seat mounts to these little brackets. Which allow a slight movement up and down. It would take some real creative craftsmanship by which I have little. I would like some more leg room myself and I'm only 6 foot.

The up and down part is actually pretty difficult to modify, the problem is the motor and all the wiring under the seat. Regarding more legroom that's actually not that difficult. Basically build a couple of spacers to "stretch" out the factory mounts and you're good to go. I easily added about 3-4 inches of legroom to my seat by doing this. Be sure to do it smart and use high grade hardware as it would suck for this to fail during an accident.

I'm 6'3" and drove Slatz's '03 DII back from Windrock...that's a joke. I thank God everytime I wheel for my D1 and it's expansive legroom.

Short trips are fine. Any trip over a hour for me is very uncomfortable. Really just my right leg. I switch and let my wife drive on longer trips but even the passenger side seems crooked or something. I'm not very tall.

Weird. I'm 6'5" and I thought the D1 was tighter then my rig last time I drove one. I certainly don't think mine has any remarkable amount of room at all, but the D1 feels tighter. Especially in visibility.

I have driven both extensively, many different trucks, and IMHO, the D1 is much more spacious when it comes to room for the driver and passenger.

My problem with the D1 has always been that the windshield seems even lower than a D2 and I can't see the stoplights in the D2 as it is. This along with the legroom issue were my only complaints (other than power) with the Discovery II's. I've fixed the legroom issue but won't be fixing the windshield issue.

Can you elaborate on this a little more? Im 6' and have major cramps with my right leg when im driving... especially after a long day after work. What do you mean build a couple of spacers for the factory mounts? Clearly not the bolts that hold the seat into the car? Any pics or a good description would be nice.

Only recommendation would be to make it 2" shorter than in the writeup, so your short wife can still drive it if need be.

I more or less did the same thing. Once you pull the seat and follow the mechanics of the seat adjustment it becomes pretty obvious what you need to do. basically some steel, a couple of holes and some high quality hardware along with 1-2 hours and you're good to go.

Gary, who did the MyRovers write up, made me a set of seat extenders. The only figgety part of the install is keeping the extenders flat. If they bow up too much the motor will bind and not move the seat. I did this before my first long road trip (SF to Pismo) 4 years ago and they worked (and have been working) great.

I used 1/8th thick flat stock, I had to countersink and loctite the bolts on the motor end because of the thickness, but it isn't flexing.

For sure they will ride close to the actuators, especially in the lowest position. I think I may just weld extensions out then bolt the added piece to the actuators.
My wife is tall so I'm not worried about adding to much length, but I am going to weld in some kind of safety stop so the tracks don't hit the end of the actuator things and break stuff.

Exactly what I did as well. I had to work a little to ensure that the countersunk bolt was completely flush with the 1/8" metal strap. Additionally I threw just a little grease in there as it appeared that the seat would still rub it ever so slightly. I'm not too concerned about it though.

Word of warning though, I think I moved my seat back a little too far as my wife now says she can't move it close enough for her to drive the truck comfortably. I probably moved it 3-4" total, definitely overboard but boy is it nice now.

D1 and D2 (and late model soft dash RRC) share wheelbase, pedal box, bulkhead, center dash (albeit a little different in RRC), but.... I always feel cramped in the D2. Don't ask me why, it's just a feel, I could drive the RRC for ages, but it's not the case with the D2. If you're average, it's perfect, but if you are over or under average (meaning for average the measures taken into account when designing these horrendous seats) then you're lost.

Besides, the seat springs are badly manufactured, there is a design fault, due to the way the trim is mounted. In the seat base, behind, the seat foam support is only held in place by 2 weak springs which sag, that makes the foam sag as well and presto! PITA when driving for more than one hour.

I've searched in vain for alternatives, I've zip-tied all the seat base underside, even made a hybrid foam from a Dacia Logan using my original sides.
It's a hell more comfortable but... still makes long journeys quite unbearable.

At least I'm not the only one who feels cramped in the D2.
