03 D2 w/ 4.6. So i have been chasing a misfire in cylnder 4 for about two months now. Two months ago I had the dealer do the 60K (to satisfy warrenty) and replace the plugs. To make a long story short I pulled the plugs this morning and the plugs read RC11PYPB4. This thread says that tis is for a 4.0 and this one, RN11YCC is for the 4.6. http://www.discoweb.org/forums/showthread.php?t=42678&referrerid=10889

Can someone confirm if this, RC11PYPB4, will also work in the 4.6?

Thxs.

The shop manual lists RC11PYPB4 for the 1999-2002 MY 4.0L.

RAVE lists the above plug for the 4.0. RAVE lists Champion RN11 YCC for the 4.6. In other words, the plugs are not the same for the 4.0L as they are for the 4.6L.

I use Champion platinums (they were out of the coppers) NAPA #3318 in my 4.6L. It runs fine.

The fact that aLR dealership can't even install the correct plugs in a product they sell makes me want to puke nails.

I've tried many different plugs from the cheapest to the most advanced Iridiums. Never made any difference with my misfire #3 code. I have settled on champion truck plugs just because they are for trucks and they fit the cylinder head correct. All the other plugs are such a tight fit the spark plug socket barely fits down on the head.

I'm convinced my misfire is a bad cam or stuck valve. I only get 2 misfire codes to clear after that I never get another code for months. If I clear the code they pop right back on within 10 minutes then none else ever. The engine runs smooth plugs are always even in color. I don't have to pass inspection umtil 2009 so hopefully by then I'll sell this bitch.

It's because you went to the dealership. They want you to have the most expensive plugs that money can buy. That way they can make more on their mark-up.

yeah. 12 bucks a plug is a tough pill. I called parts at denver east and asked them why i would have a RC11PYPB4 in the 4.6 and he mentioned that is the only part listed for it. He doesn't even stock the RN11YCC and doesn't know any application that it would be used for.

all in all i trust the word of the crowd; replaces super duper wize bang plugs w/ $2 dollar ngk's.

the difference between a 12 or a 11 is the heat range lower number will create more bottom power the higher number is for running at higher rpm..12 should be colder..11 is hotter
