Can you reuse valve cover gaskets?

As stated above, can you reuse valve cover gaskets that don't have any visual signs of damage and that were not leaking before the valve cover was removed? Or should they just be replaced every time the valve cover comes off?

TIA

Not a good idea since they have been under some compression from the valve cover. They arent expensive go ahead and purhase new ones and save yourself a future headache.

Replace them, they're cheap.

Each Valve cover has 4 brass rings that the valve cover machine screws/8mm 12 pt bolts thread through.

When removing the gaskets make sure you get all 4 brass ring/grommet things from both sides.

Not each. Some.

Oh yesah - and dont reuse them. They are like 8$ or something per side, and its really not worth leakage.

No, I'm not that guy, but yes we need to go wheeling!! I was maybe going to go with you guys (Peter Ingebrigtsen invited me and said you would be going) but my check engine light came on that week, and I didn't want to screw anything up. Come to find out it was just he O2 sensor and that's all sorted now. You may have seen our D-90 driving around. My little brother has been driving it for about the last 3 years (because I moved out and it's really our dad's car, and he gets first "dibs" on it). Anyway, my little bro put a Grateful Dead sticker at the top of the front windshield, so you might have seen it. Anyway, we should set up a time sometime and go. I just gotta find time between school and work and homework. But I'm sure I can swing it.

BTW, is your last name Brazilian? If not, it's def latin, right?

I was up AF canyon last night... where did you go Marc? I first hit forest lake, then camped out up near mineral basin. If you guys go wheelin again, definately let me know, I live a mile down the road from the canyon and am always game if I'm not at work, or under the rover...

Hey Marc,
Just had a thought. Last year did you have a silver range rover? About september time I was at forest lake, playin in the mud, when I got stuck. I was still new to the rover and hadn't got the feel for it yet. A jeep pulled up to pull me out, but the guy in the range rover came out, and talked me through getting myself unstuck, which I did thanks to his help. He also had his little son with him. Was that you? If so thanks a lot for your help that day man. I later found that I had really sticky valves and was severely underpowered. Plus I made the crucial mistake of not being prepared, or knowing my equipment. I'm definately more prepared now, and a little more cautious, especially around mud. Anyways, if it was you, just wanted to say thanks, and if any of you local guys head up on a weekend, Marc, cbass, or any other locals, gimme an e-mail and I'll send you my number. rrefx@comcast.net

Thanks,
Ryan

I'll be sure to contact you guys too when I head up. My dad and brothers will have to make a nice trip of it. Maybe camp out in/around AF canyon sometime before it gets too cold.

Sounds good Cbass. It is getting cold up there, I hit Forest Lake again last night for a little mud, and any of us not in a mummy bag was hating life. Anyways, good luck with your valve covers. When I did mine it sucked, ended up just getting the heads and valves done, and new rocker arms too. It obviosly hadn't been taken care of by the previous owner, and I wasn't about to take any chances, so hopefully yours is easier.

Oh, and tell Skylar thanks for me Marc, he was pretty cool.
