Who is planning on attending the Old North State run at Caney Fork next weekend? And is the date Saturday (10th) or Sunday (11th)? I saw it both ways on the Old North State website.

It's not official ONSLRS event, but it has turned into a nice regular ride. I'm 50-50 on being able to make a day trip on Saturday, but some others might go up on Friday afternoon and camp through Sunday. Otherwise, meet at the Wal-Mart in Sylva on Saturday morning.

There might also be an early December Caney Fork run. If not, the January ride is pretty popular too.

No problem on the gloves also. I assume your ignition lasted enough to get you home... A buddy of mine had a similar thing on his motorcycle - when it got pretty hot a coil would check out and the bike would have to cool down some before it would start again.

See you again soon,

Matt

I have to work on the house. I'll miss it unfortunately.

For us new guys to ONSLRS what kind of trails should one expect on that Caney run?...and are there multiple trails to the mountain top?

***IF*** we are able to go, it will most likely entail us leaving Friday late afternoon/evening, camping around the NOC, and finishing the drive Saturday a.m. However, I am not sure if we are even going to be able to make it. When is the December run? It's always easier for me to get a babysitter for the Four Horsemen (well, three are girls, but you get the gist) if I plan ahead.

there is a easy one, almost to the top, a couple of moderates, i have only been on the one, ex for the old mosses creek, that one is gravel to the first field. there was talk of a all day ride form caney fork to brevard though the woods, i am not sure when that one will take place though.

every time i've been someone always knocks off an end cap (not a big deal). whether it be a RRC or a disco, someone's always pops off. thats about the extent of any damage as long as you know what you're doing. i damaged my rear bumper a little, but not bad. there are many places where you have to pick safe line, and remember that you have diffs and not to smash them in rocks. i've driven them in poor all terrains once, and it was fine most of the time. but with mud terrains you won't ever loose traction. its a GREAT place to ride, we camp two nights and ride all weekend and never see the same thing twice. i highly reccommend taking the map, and a gps, its been a life saver for me and mine. i would never go alone, its just very remote. the trails get tight, so scratches will happen. its doable with a stock vehicle, but even with lifted rovers end caps and bumpers hit sometimes, clearance is the issue. factory air dams wouldnt last long out there. its a ton of fun, sometime techinical (which makes it fun), but bottom line is don't take a vehicle you wouldnt mind getting scratched, or minor bumps. sorry for a long post, but i figured i'd give a clear synopsis. i'd love to come on saturday and meet alot of you all, but i'll probably work. heres a video from back in aug, its a good example of the trails.
