Hi ,
I will be heading up Friday, camping Friday and Saturday. I will be running back down to the Wal-mart on Saturday morning, as that is the actual start point for the Society event.
As we did last year, you don't have to meet at the Wal-mart. Once we do get those meeting there together, we will set up for a couple of trails: those who just want to head up to the Bald and back down again as their adventure, and another for those who want to do something else.
If you have participated in an Old North State event before, this might seem a bit strange, but having a couple of different routes seems to keep people liking each other. Also, while it has never been a problem, it is always good to mention that there will be children at the campsite and we are certainly family-friendly. I have been asked what family-friendly means, and the best answer is act like the folks around you are your family, their children your children and behave accordingly. Again, we have been doing these for 6 years, and we have never had a problem. Folks just seem to know how to get along.
Also, you don't have to be a member to participate; you don't have to be in a Land Rover; you don't have to travel with any of the "formal groups"; you don't even have to leave the camp site if you don't want to, and nobody will speak ill of you if you do or don't do any of these. (All right, some folks will probably poke fun if you show up in something non Land Rover, but it is all good natured.
Looks like it will be a good weekend!!! I am thinking Knob Creek and Gurkha shaggies, yum!
