Can’t stop a leak

Replaced front cover, seal, timing chain etc.
Put everything back together tired it up runs great….. except a leak at the seal. Pulled it thought it might not have been seated all the way. It leaked almost immediately and stopped as soon as the truck was cut off.
Had a new seal put it in and ran for a while and it slowly started leaking. Not as bad as yesterday. So I’m at a loss at this point.
My pully has some groves could that be the culprit?

That's a pretty bad groove I see. Not sure how different the cover is from my D1 but if you have the room, try to sink the seal deeper so it can ride on a better part of the crank pulley. If you can't then maybe time for a new used one with less wear. Also, I don't know what seal you are using but a corteco seal seems to work better for me.

The seal is from lucky 8. All makes or what that brand is.
The seal is in as far as it’ll go.
Where do you get the Corteco seal!

Yeah I don't like that seal. Allmakes and britpart are really getting under my skin. If it's the same part number as the D1 which I think it is, I got mine through partsgeek. They had like 32 in stock and it was at my door step in two days. High quality if you ask me lol.

I'm pretty sure the front cover seals are all the same. I keep a bunch of Genuine LR seals around and used the same one in Bosch 4.6s and a 4.6/3.9 hybrid. You can pick them up from Rovers North, Miami British, etc.

Changing the depth of the seal helps if the balancer is grooved. You can also sleeve the pulley with a SKF 99192 sleeve. Worked for me on a RRC with a 4.6 crank after Atlantic British screwed me on a harmonic balancer that didn't fit.

I think new balancers are still available for Bosch engines too if you go that route.

I ordered a sleeve and new seal hopefully that’ll fix my leak. The price of the balancers is insane.

Late to the conversation, but I also just completed the oil pump/timing chain/front cover gasket task stemming from a front cover gasket leak, and like the OP, the cheap ass Britpart/Allmakes front cover seal is leaking like a sieve. thanks to the other posters for both the Corteco and sleeve recommendations.

For the timing cover to engine block gasket, the OEM gasket which you can get at rovers north & the Victor Reinz gasket works the best.

That combo has worked for me. Now my oil pan is leaking because it didn't seal up. so that'll get re done and use rtv.

I did the Corteco seal and sleeve with no issues. Now I have a leak where it meets at the back of the oil pan. 2 Oil pan gaskets and same leak.

I personally would ditch the gasket, clean the surfaces really nice and apply a bead of high temp sealant that suits your liking.
