Does anyone know if you're allowed to camp in random, unestablished campsites when in Canyonlands NP? Can you drive back in a canyon somewhere and set up or do you have to stick to the established sites on the official map?

IIRC, according to the Nat Geo map of the area, you can primitve camp in some areas and not in others.

I'd take that with a grain of salt.

Have you called the office direct?

Trailorsville UT.
Needles district, cottonwood canyon, just past newspaper rock. Pretty damn primitive, no outhouses.

I was there about two weeks ago for a dirt bike ride over Elephant hill. 90 plus miles in about 6 hours.
