Recommendations needed for affordable amp to power stock sub.

My expectations: I was happy with the stock sound system to be honest. I'll be getting a $70-100 JVC or Kenwood head unit. Already have Polk or Rockford Fosgate speakers and will be putting new subs in the stock enclosure.

I'm not an audiophile and do not need nor want a $1000 stereo system.
I do not want some giant amp that is a PITA to find a place to install.

I was looking at this one as it met my financial requirement and thought it would meet my system requirements, maybe exceed?? BUT the dimensions are 9.21"X10.43"X2.25" which IMO is way to big. http://smile.amazon.com/dp/B004S4XN...lid=2XHC2R77HT2BY&coliid=I35XQ8CXMUEE8X&psc=1

So I'm looking for a small amp that can be tucked away nicely, power two stock size subs, and is under $50.

I have that amp, its fits (albeit tightly) on the factory under driver-seat tray on my 95. Pushes my two aftermarket 6" subs without a hiccup. My only gripe was the INSANELY bright glow from the logo, but I just put some gaff tape over it.

I know you weren't asking about this, but have you considered running 1 bigger sub instead of replacing the factory stuff. The factory enclosure sucks. I built a box in the same location that houses an 8". I powered that by a 125w amp that is located on the back or the rear seat. It is in the center, so I when I fold the seats forward it sits between the 2 front seats.

I originally have a kicker sub, but now running an MTX.
Will probably end up going to a JL sub with JL, Rockford, or soundstream amp with a little more power.
It sounds pretty good as is though.

That's not a very reasonable budget for a new product. You should be looking in this area:

http://www.amazon.com/MIKRO-Monoblock-Advanced-Design-Amplifier/dp/B00GA9TGE6

I'm playing around with some of these ZED Mikro units right now. They're pretty sweet, and certainly fit the bill. Being class D, they are quite efficient. A 4 channel is available that can be bridged down to two if you want to run the drivers separately.

Or, you can look into some vintage units. The early days offered many smaller, lower output amplifiers with plenty of power; especially bridgable two-channels:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Soundstream-D100-Vintage-Car-Amplifier-/141840805703?hash=item21065eef47:g:v8oAAOSwo6lWP8z6

A number of amps are available in roughly this size and output, and they'd be fine so long as you get them the right connection and signal. Some are more tolerant than others. That one doesn't care what you give it, so long as you use the right connector.

Ebay is chock full of the things, and some really sweet gear can be had. It can go very high sometimes, depending upon condition, but in your case, so long as it works, who cares? These old tanks can take a pretty solid beating, too.

They're commonly class A or A/B, though, so aren't as efficient, and need just a bit of breathing room, though not as much as you'd expect.

Cheers,

Kennith

I've have audiophile-level systems in cars before, and had (have) zero interest in spending that much money on the Disco. This amp works great for the price.

My first two jobs in high school were at car audio shops. Thats the only reason I had high- end equipment. We got everything at cost which was about half price!

I used to have a sub with integrated amp fit right under the driver seat tray. It is not that powerful, but as it is right underneath your ass, rather than all the way from the rear door, it does provide decent output. And those ain't expensive. Not enough power, fit one more under the passenger seat, lol.

similar one in the attached pic.
