My rear cargo door is stuck with the handle in the open/up position. Can't open it. Tried: pushing and pulling on it, opening it from the inside and locking/unlocking it numerous times, nothing is working. Has this ever happened to anyone? Any suggestions? Would rather not have to go to the dealership.

my 95 DI rear door is AFU... it will only open if i put the key in the lock and turn it to the left....

i think the spring that must keep the lock open, busted. so unless you have the key in the lock and turn it to the open position you cant open the door

the land rover emblem on the back door pops off. Take a knife or screwdrive and pop it off from the bottom, there is a little slip for it, and you have access to the handle. spray some WD-40 on it and push it forward and work the penetration oil in and that should do the job.

I had the same problem with mine-did the WD40 trick and worked great . . . a week later the entire lock mechanism broke, and as stated above, now I can only open my cargo door with the key inserted and turned. I wonder if the sticking latch is a precursor to the lock breaking?

if it's a precursor, mine's been precursing for about 5 years. i usually put something a little stronger than wd40 in, more like graphite powder or lithium grease. with those, usually only happens maybe two or three times a year.

Mine sticks and gets the WD-40 treatment about every 6 months. Has been that way for several years. No trouble with the mechanism breaking yet....

Cargo Door Problems

My cargo door sometimes will not open but it appears to be something related to the anti-theft system. The reason I say this is that it works fine sometimes but other times acts as though it's just locked and will not open from the inside or outside, but if I mess around with the key lock it will unlock it and when I open it the alarm goes off and the lights flash until I hit the remote door button. I'm not sure if this is related to the rear windows not working sometimes for the first 5-10 minutes of driving. Very strange, '96 Disco SD.

not sure about your rear door Jim, but the rear windows are probably this issue: http://www.discoweb.org/window/index.htm

my rear windows first started doing the same your's does. not operating for the first 5-10 min on start-up, then begin working just fine. finally (about 6 months) they completely stopped (thanfully in the up position). pulled window ecu, exact same bad solder point.

Flakey Rear Windows

Whoa ! Thanks a million. Sure sounds like the problem, because it's obviously nothing to do with the switches or the child window lock switch since none of them make any difference. This is great. I've been on another Disco discussion board (won't mention name) and noone knew the answer even though alot of people had the problem.

I am now having the same problem with my driver side door. Will not open unless the key is in the lock and turned! The infection is spreading . . .

Here we go again, My (Bloody Disco will not let me in again)
I have growen to love the little quirks of my Disco, not letting me in from time to time is its best trick.
I just pop off the emblem if its the back door.
Its just a Disco thing :)

Is the problem the door latch? If so where can I buy one, and has anyone attempted (and succeeded) at changing this themselves.
