In the process of flushing my radiator in preparation for the A.B. lower temp t-stat. I've read that Cascade is an option but have various opinions- not good for aluminum etc.

Has anyone tried Cascade? If so what was the amount that was used? How long did you keep it in the system before flushing?

Or

Should White Distilled Vinegar be another option

Or

Peak Flush kit?

Thanks-

All of those flushes are pretty much shit compared to the "real" rad flushed you used to be able to get. I'm talking oxalic acid. They don't sell that anymore at you general parts store.

Good thing you can still get it at paint supply houses really cheap, and all you need to neutralize it is some baking soda from the grocery store.

The more important thing here is......why are you flushing? Did you find cold spots on your radiator so you KNOW you have a restriction? Do you even have an issue right now?

Everything comes at a cost. You don't do serious chemical flushing for fun. You don't really need much more than a water flush if you've been keeping up on maintenance or know the history of the truck....and it's likely you don't since you probably haven't had it since new.

So what's going on? What are the symptoms?

I purchased the PEL500110 from A.B.

It's the original radiator with 50910 miles. We got the truck at 4000 miles and had it serviced for the first two years at the dealership but neglected the flush until the last two years. No excuses... it was my wifes SUV at the time and I did not pay much attention to it at the time. Since taking over the last few years I educated myself on these forums and learned about Dexcool.

I had a shop install a new T-stat about 1.5 years ago but they insisted on using Dexcool. Six months after that my bro-in-law and myself changed the valve cover gaskets/ intake gasket/ plugs/wires and flushed out the coolant with tap water. I added distilled/green coolant. Purchased a Ultraguage and started to monitor the temps. It would average 199-204F City but get up to 208-210F idle. I did not test the concentration of the coolant until I noticed temps were rising . I had it flushed again to the proper concentration but the shop used tap water. The owner had a Disco and a Range Rover and mentioned after he had done it that that was what he always used. Six months after that I notice that the average temps rose about 5 degrees- 204-208F City but rising at idle to 212 and sometimes 215F. I would put on the AC full to keep the temps down.

Reading about the PEL500110... I decided to go for it. I'm guessing that the neglect over the years built up some gunk hence wanted to do a decent flush. I know the last two flushes have been with tap water.
